Noah Syndergaard has been a real mixed bag this year. But it seems clear at least that he’s a better pitcher at home. Compared to his overall ERA of 3.86 and record of 4-6, at home he’s down to a 2.39 ERA and a 3-2 record. He’s taking on the Mariners who fit a similar narrative, struggling away from home with 21 of their 39 losses.
Marco Gonzales will start for the Mariners and has improved lately, but not enough to really convince much. He hasn’t faced a team with the hitting quality of the Angels lately, with his last 4 starts coming against Oakland, Boston, Minnesota and Texas. The Mariners bullpen isn’t good enough to make up for it either, so unless he makes it through 7 innings, the advantage is strongly with the Angels.
