It shouldn’t be news to anyone that this is Serena’s last hoorah and final tournament of her career. Arguably the greatest tennis player of all time advanced fairly easily past round 1 in straight sets (6-3, 6-3) showing signs of her younger self. However, she’s going against a much tougher opponent in #2 ranked Annett Kontaveit. Annet won round 1 in straight sets (6-0, 6-3), but has struggled in recent tournaments (especially grand slams). She’s only been to a grand slam quarterfinal once, she has only won smaller tournaments and she definitely has never experienced the kind of atmosphere she’ll see in Arthur Ashe stadium tonight. The audience will be electric in supporting the American in her victory lap. I’m not fully sold Serena will win the match, but with the combo of the crowd’s energy and being in good form from round 1, I see her easily winning, on average, 4 games per set to cover the +4.5 game spread.
