(4) Auburn vs. (13) Yale: Betting Tips, Prediction, and Betting Odds

Yale will return to the tournament this year for the third time in five seasons to play against Auburn, a four seed that has been ranked inside the top 10 this year. It was a buzzer beater shot that won the game for Yale in the Ivy League Championship. They got a tough draw as Auburn had a case to be a three or even a two seed in the tournament after going 27-7 in a tough conference and winning the SEC Championship.

Yale played two extremely tough opponents this year in non-conference games, Gonzaga and Kansas. Those were the only two games that they lost by more than the current spread of this game at 12.5 points. It may prove hard for them to stop another top team in the country, Auburn, in this one.

Auburn has been one of the top scoring teams in the nation this year, averaging 83.3 points per game which is good for the 13th most in the nation. This team plays fast and may be too fast for Yale in this game.

Yale has covered the spread in 55% of their games this year but Auburn has covered it in 62% of theirs. Auburn is no stranger of blowout wins either. In a whopping 72% of their games they won by 13 or more points. Don’t forget that more than half of their games were against teams that were much better than Yale and they still were blowing them out. Some teams that Auburn beat by 13 or more include: Alabama, Arkansas, and most recently Florida in the SEC Championship game.

Yale has one thing working for them in covering this spread: they have only lost by 13 or more points twice all year. Their strength of schedule was extremely weak outside of those two games, however. For them to cover this one they would have to slow the pace down and stop this potent offense somehow. That’s something that I do not see happening and like Auburn to cover 12.5 points.

Yale hasn’t been scoring huge numbers as of late but on the season their games have gone over this 45% of the time. Auburn games have gone over 140.5 points 71% of the time. I like this total to go over as Auburn should be able to score at their normal rate of over 83 points or even more in this one. To keep this total over, Yale will need to score just 60 points if Auburn puts up 80+ in this game.

While Yale has played at a slower pace than Auburn in the Ivy League, they can still score the ball. At the pace Auburn plays at I expect this total to go well over 140.5 points.
