The red-hot Cleveland Cavaliers look to add another victim to their list as they take on the other team in Los Angeles the Clippers. You can watch the game on NBA TV as Part 2 of their double-header tipping off at 10.30 pm ET.
Despite a slow start last night against the Lakers in the same building, the Cavaliers were able to get the job done in the end and win 114-100. Donovan Mitchell continued his stellar play with 33 points and 5 rebounds, while Darius Garland added 24 and 7 dimes.
At 8-1 this team is breathing down the neck of the Milwaukee Bucks for the 1st seed in the East, and they are looking unstoppable at the moment. They have an opportunity to push their win streak to 9 games, something they haven’t done since the days of LeBron James being on the team. The Clippers have had their number in recent meetings though, beating them 7 times in the last 9 meetings.
However, these Clippers seem to be struggling to start the season and that’s mostly due to injuries. Kawhi Leonard missed yet another game last night as they dropped their 5th game of the season already, against the Utah Jazz 110-102. Paul George tried his best to carry them with 34 points and 8 rebounds, but this team is just not the same without their best player. When is Kawhi Leonard coming back? That’s the question nobody knows the answer to at the moment. They could definitely use him tonight as for the first time in a while the Clippers are underdogs in a home game. In that scenario they have just 2 wins in 13 games.
It would take a miracle performance by the Clippers here to stop the in-form Cavs. Donovan Mitchell looks like a man possessed out there and he’s getting a ton of help in Garland, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen on the defensive end. Until the Clippers recover from all the injuries, I am betting against them. Take the Cavs on the road.
The Clippers are averaging 117.1 points per game in the last 10 meetings with the Cavs, I think it’s fair to say that those days are over with how Cleveland is playing right now. Defensively they are 2nd in the NBA with a 102.9 rating and just last night they held the fast paced Lakers to just 100 points.
The Clippers play a similar style as the Cavs do, they to take a lot of pride in defending the basketball and rank 4th in defensive rating. Both teams also rank in the bottom 10 when it comes to pace of play, the Cavs average just 97.7 possessions per game, so it could be yet another slow tempo affair. The total has gone 2-3 in favor of the under in 5 Cavs road games, while the Clippers are 1-8 on the season overall and are yet to have a game go over the total in 3 played at Crypto.com arena. The projected total has been set at a high 220 points here, I can’t see the two teams going over that. Let’s take the under.
