NBA Eastern Conference Winner 22/23

The buzz around the 2022/23 season is intensifying as we are just 33 days away from opening night! It’s time to break down who are the main favorites to win this year’s Eastern Conference championship.

The defending champions Boston Celtics made a couple of bold moves this offseason after acquiring Malcolm Brogdon and Danilo Gallinari. The injury to Gallinari during EuroBasket was a big blow, but even without him they should be a force in the East following their Finals loss to Golden State last season.

With one more season playing together under their belt, can Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown lift the Celtics to the top seed during the regular season? With a healthy Khris Middleton, are the Milwaukee Bucks once again the team to beat? Can the Brooklyn Nets get their act together and finally make a significant push with their Big 3? Let’s analyze all that below!

Top 6 favorites to win the Eastern Conference

  • Boston Celtics +270
  • Milwaukee Bucks +330
  • Brooklyn Nets +360
  • Miami Heat +800
  • Philadelphia 76ers +850
  • Cleveland Cavaliers +1800

Best NBA Eastern Conference Champion Futures Picks

Unlike many other analysists, for some odd reason I am not completely sold on the Boston Celtics this upcoming season. Instead, I would rather side with the Milwaukee Bucks who are priced at +330 to win the East. Losing Khris Middleton for the series against Boston last season was a big blow, even without him they were able to push the Celtics to 7 games which is a good sign. Giannis Antetokounmpo will definitely be extra motivated after coming up short at EuroBasket with Greece. This team has not lost in the playoffs since winning the championship when their trio of Antetokounmpo, Middleton and Holiday is healthy.

Coming in at +800, the Miami Heat are priced a lot higher than I initially thought they would be. Sure, this team has it’s limitations on offense as they don’t have a clear-cut 2nd scoring option behind Jimmy Butler, but I am expecting big man Bam Adebayo to make a extra leap this season. This team is capable of beating anyone, just like we saw in last year’s playoffs when they were just 1 game short of making it back into the NBA Finals for the first time since 2020. They are a well oiled machine with the necessary experience not a lot of teams in the Eastern Conference have at the moment.

Outsider NBA Eastern Conference Champion Futures Picks

The first outsider that definitely deserves a look are the Philadelphia 76ers. James Harden and Joel Embiid finally go into training camp together which should make a huge difference as opposed to Harden arriving to the team mid-season last year. The Beard took a major discount to remain with the team, showing his commitment to winning an NBA championship. As a result the Sixers were able to add De’Anthony Melton, P.J. Tucker and Daniel House which should help with the depth issues they faced last season. Tyrese Maxey made some noise during the postseason, he is also expected to make improvements to his game this season. The 76ers have the potential to finish with a top 3 record this regular season.

Another team that has a ton of potential coming into this season are definitely the Cleveland Cavaliers. The addition of Donovan Mitchell means that they now have 3 All-Stars on their roster as well as last season’s NBA Rookie of the Year runner-up. And to top it all off, all 3 of those players are aged 25 or under which means the future is bright for the Cavaliers. Losing Jarrett Allen late in the season really hurt them last year as they finished 8th and lost both play-in tournament games. That too should also be a motivating factor, I think at +1800 odds this team definitely deserves a closer look.
