NBA Western Conference Winner 22/23

The countdown to the 2022/23 NBA season continues as we are just 12 days away from training camps opening for all 30 teams. We take a closer look at who are the main favorites to win the Western Conference championship for 2022/23.

With no significant moves to their roster, the defending champions Golden State Warriors remain the odds on favorites as they look to win their 7th Conference title since the 2014/15 season.

All eyes will also be on the LA Lakers who are trying to bounce back from one of the worst seasons in recent years as they missed out on the play-in tournament finishing 11th in the standings last season.

Does LeBron James have one more title run in him? How much will the LA Clippers improve with the return of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George from injury? Will the Memphis Grizzlies make another leap after defying the odds and finishing 4th last season? The new season is just around the corner, so let’s break down some of the main storylines!

Top 6 favorites to win the Western Conference

  • Golden State Warriors +320
  • Los Angeles Clippers +330
  • Phoenix Suns +430
  • Denver Nuggets +900
  • Memphis Grizzlies +1000
  • Los Angeles Lakers +1100

Best NBA Western Conference Champion Futures Picks

We have to show respect to the current champions – the Golden State Warriors who open as +320 favorites to repeat as Conference champions. As long as Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green remain healthy, this team will be a force to be reckoned with. The addition of Andrew Wiggins did wonders for them last season as he embraced the Harrison Barnes role almost to perfection as the Warriors captured their 4th title in 8 years. Otto Porter Jr. and Gary Payton II are the two main absentees from last season, but with younger players like Moses Moody and Jonathan Kuminga expected to make another leap in their development, the Warriors shouldn’t have any issues with depth.

I believe the Denver Nuggets also deserve a look at +900 odds. Both Michael Porter Jr. and Jamal Murray are expected to be back at 100% which should be a big boost for 2-time MVP Nikola Jokic who has been forced to carry the load over the past 2 seasons. Speaking of Jokic, he will also be extra motivated following his early elimination from EuroBasket with Serbia. The Nuggets have the necessary depth and experience to go far, but just like in previous seasons it all comes down to health for head coach Michael Malone.

Outsider NBA Western Conference Champion Futures Picks

The most anticipated “outsider” in this season’s Western Conference is definitely the team in purple and gold the Los Angeles Lakers. Priced at +1100 odds they present a low risk / high reward opportunity for every bettor out there. New head coach Darvin Ham intends to make big changes to the style of play and by the looks of it the team might be sticking with Russell Westbrook as their starting point-guard after all. We’ve all seen the videos of Anthony Davis working hard during the summer, when healthy you can make a case he is a top 5 NBA talent. And we all saw how great LeBron James still is. The soon-to-be 38-year old has a lot left in the tank, I don’t know about you, but I can never discount a LeBron James led team to make some noise in the postseason. The Lakers are definitely intriguing, but just like the Brooklyn Nets in the Eastern Conference things could go sideways very quickly.

Another team worth checking out are the Minnesota Timberwolves who come in at +1400 to win the Conference. The addition of Rudy Gobert from the Utah Jazz could do wonders for them as far as paint protection goes, something they’ve struggled with for years. Karl-Anthony Towns finally has a center besides him, which could open up space for him and he can focus more on scoring the basketball. Anthony Edwards is also expected to improve a lot after impressing during his playoff debut last season. After winning 46 games last season, anything under 52 wins would be a disappointment for the Wolves this year.
