2023 NFL Preseason Picks & Predictions

NFL Preseason Picks

NFL Hall of Fame Game - New York Jets vs Cleveland Browns

The Hall of Fame game is set to take place on August 3rd between the Jets and Browns.

In the last 10 Hall of Fame games since 2010, the total points scored have gone UNDER the set line 7 out of 10 times, Because preseason games can be unpredictable, following these trends could be a smart move.

That would mean betting on the total points to go UNDER 34 at odds of -115 on Fanduel would be a smart play.

Patrick Mahomes Futures Prop Bet

Patrick Mahomes has the highest preseason over/under total for passing TDs at 36.5. Over the last 5 seasons, Mahomes has exceeded 36.5 passing TDs in 3 straight years and 4 out of 5 years. His actual passing TD totals for each of the last 5 seasons are listed (50, 26, 38, 37, 41).

His 5-year average is 38.4 passing TDs, higher than the over/under of 36.5. That’s an average of 38.4 passing TDs per season in the last 5 years, We’ll take that one any day.

Based on Mahomes consistently exceeding 36.5 TDs, betting on the OVER 36.5 passing TDs in 2023 seems like a good bet.

Our “To Make the Playoffs” NFL Parlay Picks

Looking through Fanduel’s NFL page you’ll likely come across the “To Make Playoffs” market. When we first saw this market we immediately added the four heaviest favorites to make the playoffs into one parlay:

We came up with a 4-team parlay bet on the Chiefs, 49ers, Eagles, and Bengals to each make the playoffs with the odds for this parlay at +144 via Fanduel

Kansas City Chiefs

Undoubtedly the NFL’s best team over the last 5 years. It’s nearly impossible to imagine a world where they don’t make the playoffs in the upcoming season.

San Francisco 49ers

Should the 49ers make the playoffs? Yes, definitely, but Will the 49ers make the playoffs? Good question. San Francisco has a stacked roster but no one is quite sure how their quarterback situation is going to turn out: will Purdy, Lance, or Darnol to be the starting QB? Either way, the 49ers are a favourite to make the playoffs for a reason.

Philadelphia Eagles

It was scary how good the Eagles were last year. In the NFC East, the only real threat to them at this time is the Dallas Cowboys. But I think most unbiased NFL fans would agree that the Eagles should easily finish above Dallas in the standings.

Cincinnati Bengals

Since Joe Burrow & Ja’Marr Chase were both drafted by the Bengals, the entire franchise has turned around but the AFC North is expected to be a tough division this year. The Bengal's win total projection is listed at 11.5, closely followed by the Ravens and Browns at 9.5. This is the leg with the most potential to lose.

Despite the uncertainty around the 49ers and Bengals, getting those 4 playoff-calibre teams at +144 odds seems like a very high-value play.
