Following their 2-0 victory over Koln last weekend, Bayer Leverkusen extended their lead at the top of the table to 10 points. This is because they were able to take advantage of more dropped points by Bayern Munich. Xabi Alonso’s team are still yet to taste defeat this season, with 10 more games to go in their bid to win not only a first title, but to do so without being beaten.

Wolfsburg, in contrast, are enduring a very underwhelming campaign, sitting in 13th just eight points above the bottom three. They have not won a game in the league since mid-December, in what has been a dismal run of form. It does not get any tougher than Leverkusen away, so it would be a shock to see this winless streak end.

Victor Boniface is still Leverkusen’s leading scorer with 10, even though he has been out for a while. Alex Grimaldo and Jeremie Frimpong have also stepped up, with 15 goals between them. Grimaldo has also contributed 10 assists, the second most in the division.

Since 2020, the two sides have faced off eight times in the Bundesliga. There has not been much to split the pair, Wolfsburg slightly edging it with three wins. They won 2-0 thanks to quick-fire goals from Max Arnold and Lukas Nmecha. The reverse fixture earlier this season ended in a 2-1 win for Alonso’s side. The visitors regained the lead before the break, but could not hold on for the win as Omar Marmoush ensured the points were shared. Third-place Stuttgart were their most recent opponents, but they lost 3-2 at home. They managed to get back to 1-1 in the second half, but Stuttgart took the game away going up 3-1. Lukas Nmecha pulled another back to threaten a comeback, but it was too late.
