  • Venue: Signal Iduna Park

The two sides sit just two places apart, with Dortmund occupying fourth and Frankfurt in sixth. Seven points separate the pair, and this game will be crucial in determining who will be playing in which competition next season. RB Leipzig sit between them in fifth, one point behind fourth, and any dropped points in this game would allow them to create some separation or gain some ground on the Champions League spots. Third place is also not out of reach for the hosts, with six points between them and Stuttgart. A win could place them as few as three points behind by the end of the weekend.

Edin Terzic’s side have scored 50 goals, which is the fifth-highest in the division. They are led by Niclas Fullkrug and Donyell Malen who have 11 strikes apiece. Frankfurt have not kept a clean sheet in eight games in all competitions so may find it difficult to contain the Dortmund frontline. However, the visitors have scored at least two goals in the last four league games, so will be confident of at least getting on the scoresheet. Omar Marmoush should provide the biggest threat as he leads the side with 10 goals.

Since 2020, Dortmund and Frankfurt have faced off eight times. Dortmund have dominated the head-to-head, winning five and losing just one. The reverse fixture earlier this season finished 3-3 in what was a thrilling draw. The hosts went 2-0 up courtesy of a Marmoush brace, but were pegged back to 2-2 shortly after the restart. Fares Chaibi restored Frankfurt’s lead, before Julian Brandt rescued a point late on.

Form Guide

Borussia Dortmund Form Guide

In their last five games, Borussia Dortmund have won two, drawn two and lost one. They began this stretch of games with dropped points away at Wolfsburg, as they drew 1-1. Niclas Fullkrug gave Dortmund an early eighth-minute lead, but this was cancelled out midway through the second half through Yannick Gerhardt.

A return to European action came against PSV, as they faced off in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16. It was honours even, as they picked up another 1-1 draw away, meaning it is all to play for in the second leg which takes place in midweek. The visitors once again took a lead, this time thanks to Donyell Malen, but a Luuk De Jong penalty takes the tie back to Germany level. This preceded a narrow 3-2 home defeat to Hoffenheim. Both teams took the lead in this one, including a second-minute opener for the away side. Malen equalised before Nico Schlotterbeck turned it around. Maximilian Beier pegged them back, then scored another in quick succession to take back the lead, which is how it stayed.

They responded well with a 2-0 win at Union Berlin. Karim Adeyemi and Ian Maatsen scored late in each half to take home all three points. Last weekend saw them take on Werder Bremen, in which they won 2-1 at their ground. Malen and Jadon Sancho gave them a two-goal half-time lead, but Dortmund were reduced to ten men in first-half stoppage time. The hosts threatened a comeback as they pulled one back, but were unable to take advantage of their extra man, falling short of an equaliser.

Eintracht Frankfurt Form Guide

In their last five games, Eintracht Frankfurt have won two, drawn two and lost one. Their most recent game came against Hoffenheim at home in which they won 3-1. They fell behind to an early John Brooks goal, but the scorer quickly went from hero to zero as he got himself sent off shortly after. Frankfurt made use of their extra man, with Robin Koch levelling the score just after the half-hour mark. Erik Junior Dina Ebimbe and Mario Gotze scored in the second half to secure the win.

This followed an away victory at mid-table Heidenheim, in which they won 2-1. They took a one-goal lead into the break after Benedikt Gimber converted into his own net. The advantage was doubled shortly after the restart as Niels Nkounkou scored. The hosts managed to pull one back 10 minutes later, but their comeback fell short as they failed to find an equaliser. It was a good response to dropping points in a 2-2 home draw against Wolfsburg. However, it was a point gained, as they had to come from behind on two occasions to ensure they were shared. Philipp Max scored his side’s first leveller before Omar Marmoush struck in the 92nd minute.

A break from league action meant a return to European football, as they faced Belgian Pro League leaders Union Saint-Gilloise in the Europa Conference League. Their 2-1 defeat meant they exited the competition with a 4-3 aggregate result. The first game in this stretch was a thrilling 3-3 draw at Freiburg. This will be a game Frankfurt would have been disappointed not to have taken maximum points from as they were pegged back three times.
