Borussia Dortmund have enjoyed a moderately stable campaign in the Bundesliga this season as they currently sit fourth after 27 games played so far this season. Der BVB as they are known, missed out on the Bundesliga title last season after failure to secure the league at home to Mainz on the final day of the campaign. This allowed Bayern Munich to win their respective game thanks to a late winner from Jamal Musiala.

Dortmund are on course at the moment to record another qualification in next year’s UEFA Champions League. The Black and Yellows as mentioned are fourth, having obtained 53 points from a possible 81 available to them this season. The hosts have averaged 1.96 points this season, which is a very respectable points tally. Despite them cut adrift from the league leaders Bayer Leverkusen, Dortmund are also competing still in the UEFA Champions League in which a quarter-final clash against Atletico Madrid awaits them.

Despite speculation regarding Edin Terzic’s future, his side have scored 55 goals in 27 games this season, which gives them a rough average of 2.1 goals scored per game. Defensively, Dortmund have conceded 32 in 27 games – conceding on average 1.18 goals per game.

The hosts will be eager to repeat their performance from their recent game in Der Klassiker against Bayern Munich. A 2-0 win over Thomas Tuchel’s side effectively ended Bayern’s hopes of the title and provided their first win in this fixture since 2014.

Borussia Dortmund could leapfrog above their opponents at the weekend; however, they will do so having still played a game more than Stuttgart at time of writing. A defeat will see the home side fall behind RB Leipzig in the league table due to Leipzig having a superior goal difference to Borussia Dortmund.

As for VFB Stuttgart, they are enjoying a brilliant season as they are on course to reach the Champions League for the first time since the 2009/10 season – in which they reached the round of 16. After narrowly avoiding relegation last season, Stuttgart are third after 26 games played, before their extra game against Heidenheim. Stuttgart are amongst one of the defensive teams in the league having conceded 31 in 26 as it currently stands. This makes them the second-best defence in the league behind Bayer Leverkusen.

Should Stuttgart win this game over Borussia Dortmund, they could potentially move nine points clear at the end of the weekend should results fall in their favour. A win could also move them above Bayern Munich and into second place should Bayern Munich fail to win their respective game next weekend.

The recent head-to-head fixtures between the two teams suggests that the game will be evenly contested between the two sides at Signal Iduna Park. In the last five games between the pair in all competitions, both sides have taken two wins and a draw from each other.

This season Stuttgart do have the upper hand, having won both the league and DFB Pokal game this season. The most recent league game was decided by a Serhou Guirassy penalty late on. Dortmund were last victorious over Stuttgart in 2022, where they ran out 5-0 winners. A certain Jude Bellingham was on hand with a brace that day.

Form Guide

Borussia Dortmund will undoubtedly have great confidence of obtaining a win over Stuttgart based on their recent form. The Black and Yellows are unbeaten in their last five games in all competitions – with three clean sheets in those five played.

The hosts are unbeaten in their last two games at the Signal Iduna Park with their last defeat coming against Hoffenheim in a 3-2 loss. Their last home brought a comfortable 3-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt thanks to goals from Karim Adeyemi, Mats Hummels and Emre Can.

In those five games played in all competitions, they have scored 11 goals – averaging 2.1 goals per game. On the defensive side of things, they have been very astute in this period. On average they have conceded only 0.4 goals per game, with three clean sheets as mentioned.

Jadon Sancho will be eager to impress once again. The on-loan Manchester United midfielder has started to show signs of his former form in recent games. The England international has two goals in his last five games whilst contributing to other areas of the pitch.

VFB Stuttgart head into this game on the back of a successful spell away from home. The away side have won four from their last five away games in all competitions – the only defeat being against Bayer Leverkusen in the DFB Pokal.

Their most recent away fixture brought home three points at Hoffenheim, thanks to goals from Enzo Millot, Serhou Guirassy and Jamie Leweling. Interestingly, Stuttgart are unbeaten away from home in the league since January where they lost to VFL Bochum.

Borussia Dortmund will be eager to keep Serhou Guirassy quiet during this game. The striker is Stuttgart’s top scorer with 22 goals in 20 games. Guirassy has scored in both games against Borussia Dortmund this season.

FlashPicks Prediction

Both sides look evenly matched heading into this fixture. The recent fixtures between the two teams are also evenly matched with both having two wins over each other in their last five. This is why we are going for a 2-2 draw. Borussia Dortmund 2-2 VFB Stuttgart.
