Germany vs Netherlands: Betting Tips, Match Prediction & Preview

Germany host the Netherlands at Deutsche Bank Park in an international friendly on Tuesday. Both sides will be looking for a win to give themselves some good momentum going into this summer’s European Championships.

  • Date: 26/03/2024
  • Kick-off time: 19:45
  • Location: Deutsche Bank Park

Both Germany and the Netherlands had an underwhelming performance in the last tournament, the 2022 World Cup, and will be looking to set themselves up with a win for a better performance at the Euros.

Germany automatically qualified for the Euros this summer as the host nation and haven’t had to go through the Qualifiers this past year. The last time out in the Euros, Germany finished second in Group F and progressed to the knock-outs. However, here they crashed out in the Round of 16 through a 2 - 0 loss to England.

DFB’s last appearance in tournament football was a tournament to forget. In the 2022 World Cup, Germany found themselves in a group with Japan, Spain and Costa Rica. However, in three games, Germany picked up a win, a draw and a loss and placed third and exited the competition.

The Netherlands, on the other hand, had to go through the Euro Qualifiers. In eight games, The Oranje have six wins and two losses, which leaves them on 18 points, four points from top of the group France and a safe five points above Greece.

At the last tournament for the Netherlands, the 2022 World Cup, The Oranje finished top of their group with two wins and one draw. The Netherlands dispatched the US in the Round of 16 but crashed out on penalties in the Quarter-finals to eventual winners Argentina.

Germany and the Netherlands have met 45 times in their histories, with the first meeting coming over 100 years ago in an international friendly in 1910. Not much separates the two sides with Germany having 16 wins and the Netherlands having 12 wins. In fact, a draw is the most common result in this fixture with 17 draws so far.

This fixture has seen a lot of goals, with both sides usually on the scoresheet. Four of the last five meetings have seen both sides on the scoresheet with three of those games having over four goals.

Form Guide

In their last five games in all competitions, Germany have two wins, one draw and two losses.

Back in September, Germany hosted France in a friendly. A veteran in the Germany squad, Thomas Muller gave Germany the lead in the fourth minute and Leroy Sane added another with only a couple minutes to go. A penalty from Antoine Griezmann in the 89th minute got France on the scoresheet, but Germany held on for the 2 - 1 win.

Germany went behind against the US, with Christian Pulisic opening the scoring in the 27th minute. Ilkay Gundogan got Germany level before halftime and second half goals from Niclas Fullkrug and Jamal Musiala secured the 3 - 1 win for Germany.

Antonio Rudiger gave Germany the lead in the 25th minute but Uriel Antuna equalised for Mexico before halftime. Erick Sanchez then gave Mexico the lead just two minutes into the second half but Fullkrug bought Germany back level just three minutes later. Despite having more of the possession and five shots on target, Germany had to settle for the 2 - 2 draw.

Germany scored early again, this time Kai Havertz goal in the fifth minute gave DFB the lead over Turkey. However, goals from Ferdi Kadioglu and Kenan Yidiz gave Turkey the 2 - 1 lead going into halftime. Fullkrug was on the scoresheet again to bring Germany level but a penalty from Yusuf Sari gave Turkey the 3 - 2 win.

Marcel Sabitzer opened the scoring for Austria to give them the 1 - 0 lead at halftime. Following the red card to Sane early in the second half, Christoph Baumgartner scored to secure the 2 - 0 win for Austria.

Germany also face France in another friendly on Saturday.

In their last five games in all competitions, the Netherlands have four wins and one loss.

The Netherlands went behind early against Ireland with Adam Idah converting his penalty in the fourth minute. A penalty from Cody Gakpo made it level before halftime and a second half goal from Wout Weghorst grabbed a 2 - 1 win for the Netherlands.

However, the next time out against France saw the Netherlands on the wrong side of the 2 - 1 scoreline. A brace from Kylian Mbappe meant that the goal from Quilindschy Hartman wasn’t enough, as France took home the 2 - 1 win and all three points.

The Netherlands bounced back against Greece. After a goalless 90 minutes, a 93rd-minute penalty from Virgil van Dijk wrapped up a 1 - 0 win for the Netherlands, with Greece only managing two shots on target.

Weghorst was on the scoresheet again for the Netherlands, this time in the 11th minute against Ireland. This was the only goal of the game as Ireland could only manage one shot on target and the Netherlands picked up another 1 - 0 win.

The trip to Gibraltar saw the Netherlands amongst the goals again. A hat-trick from Calvin Stengs and goals from Mats Wieffer, Teun Koopmeiners and Gakpo gave the Netherlands the 6 - 0 win.

The Netherlands also take on Scotland in a friendly on Friday.
