Both sides had a strong qualifying form this year and picked up some solid results in the friendlies in early June as they both look to grab an opening win this Sunday.

This is Slovenia’s first time at the European Championships since their last (and only) entry back in 2000. There in Belgium and the Netherlands, Slovenia crashed out at the Group stage where they picked up two draws and one loss in three games and failed to appear again for 14 years.

In qualifying Slovenia were in Group H alongside the likes of this weekend’s opponent Denmark, Finland, Kazakhstan, Northern Ireland and San Marino. In ten games, Slovenia picked up seven wins, one draw and two losses, missing out on the top spot in the group via head to head points.

This will be Denmark’s tenth appearance in the European Championships as they look to defy the odds and become two-time winners to back up their 1992 title. Last time out Denmark made it all the way to the Semifinals before losing to England.

Denmark were also in Group H for qualifying, taking on Slovenia, Finland, Kazakhstan, Northern Ireland and San Marino. In ten games, Denmark picked up seven wins, one draw and two losses, finishing top of the group despite being on level points with Slovenia because of their head to head record.

Slovenia and Denmark have met six times in their histories, with the first meeting coming back in the 1996 World Cup. Slovenia have never beaten Denmark, with there being one draw and five wins for Denmark.

The last five games in the fixture have seen four wins for Denmark and one draw. The last three games have seen both sides on the scoresheet with no more than three goals in total.

Slovenia picked up a massive win against footballing giants Portugal. Both Adam Gnezda Cerin and Timi Max Elsnik scored late in the game to give Slovenia the 2 - 0 win with Portugal having just two shots on target.

Jan Mlakar opened the scoring for Slovenia in the 11th minute but Varazdat Karoyan equalised for Armenia just before the hour mark. However, just seven minutes after the equaliser, Illicic found the back of the net to give Slovenia the 2 - 1 win.

The last time out for Slovenia was against Bulgaria. A penalty from Kiril Despodov gave Bulgaria the lead in the fourth minute but Sporar equalised just ten minutes later as the game finished a 1 - 1 draw.

In their last five games in all competitions, Denmark have three wins, one draw and one loss.

Denmark were handed a surprise loss by Northern Ireland in the last game of the qualifiers. Isaac Price and Dion Charles both scored in the 2 - 0 win for Northern Ireland.

In an international friendly, Denmark hosted Switzerland. Both sides had just two shots on target for the entire game and failed to convert either of them as the game finished in a 0 - 0 draw.

Denmark were back to winning ways against the Faroe Islands. Hojbjerg opened the scoring for Denmark in the eighth minute and Mohamed Daramy added another early in the second half to secure the 2 - 0 win for Denmark.

Hojbjerg was on the scoresheet again for Denmark, this time in the second minute against Sweden. Alexander Isak made it level before the ten minute mark but an 86th minute goal from Eriksen snatched a 2 - 1 win for Denmark.

The most recent outing for Denmark was against Norway. Hojbjerg found the back of the net yet again for Denmark and Jannik Vestergaard doubled the lead before halftime. Erling Haaland did get Norway on the scoresheet with 20 minutes to go but a last minute goal from Yussuf Poulsen secured the 3 - 1 win for Denmark.

FlashPicks Prediction

Though these two sides seem pretty evenly matched, it's likely that Denmark will come out on top in their opening match at the tournament with Hojlund a very likely scorer. Slovenia 1 - 2 Denmark.
