Both sides had a strong qualifying form this year and picked up some solid results in the friendlies in early June as they both look to grab an opening win this Sunday.
This is Sloveniaβs first time at the European Championships since their last (and only) entry back in 2000. There in Belgium and the Netherlands, Slovenia crashed out at the Group stage where they picked up two draws and one loss in three games and failed to appear again for 14 years.
In qualifying Slovenia were in Group H alongside the likes of this weekendβs opponent Denmark, Finland, Kazakhstan, Northern Ireland and San Marino. In ten games, Slovenia picked up seven wins, one draw and two losses, missing out on the top spot in the group via head to head points.
This will be Denmarkβs tenth appearance in the European Championships as they look to defy the odds and become two-time winners to back up their 1992 title. Last time out Denmark made it all the way to the Semifinals before losing to England.
Denmark were also in Group H for qualifying, taking on Slovenia, Finland, Kazakhstan, Northern Ireland and San Marino. In ten games, Denmark picked up seven wins, one draw and two losses, finishing top of the group despite being on level points with Slovenia because of their head to head record.
Slovenia and Denmark have met six times in their histories, with the first meeting coming back in the 1996 World Cup. Slovenia have never beaten Denmark, with there being one draw and five wins for Denmark.
The last five games in the fixture have seen four wins for Denmark and one draw. The last three games have seen both sides on the scoresheet with no more than three goals in total.
