The Gunners are unbeaten in their last nine games in all competitions, and have scored first in seven of the previous nine. Therefore, expect them to get off to another strong start.Their home record is also impressive, as they are unbeaten in seven. They have not lost at the Emirates since April. Arsenal have the upper hand in this head-to-head with PSG, undefeated in their last three. Neither side has kept a clean sheet in these games.Goals should be a feature as both teams have scored in eight of the last 10 involving PSG. Arsenal vs PSG: Champions League Match Preview

            Date: October 1, 2024
            Kick-off Time: 14:00 EST
            Venue: Emirates Stadium

Arsenal hosts PSG in a crucial Champions League clash. The Gunners have had a strong start, currently third in the Premier League. However, after a draw with Atalanta in their first group stage match, they’ll be eager for three points. Meanwhile, PSG, despite losing Kylian MbappΓ©, are undefeated this season. They won their opener against Girona and lead Ligue 1, thanks to key performances from Bradley Barcola and Ousmane DembΓ©lΓ©.

In the league so far, PSG have scored 20 goals in six games, by far the most in the division. Their attack should give the Arsenal defence another stern test. The Londoners have conceded just five times in the Premier League, but four of those have come in the last two matches. This includes two to relegation battling Leicester, which could suggest some vulnerability.

Bradley Barcola has done a fine job filling the void left by Mbappe, as the youngster has scored six goals already. Ousmane Dembele has also made big contributions with four strikes. Arsenal have plenty of threats of their own, with Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard combining for five league goals. Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and newest signing Raheem Sterling are also dangerous sparks on the wing.

This will be just the fifth meeting between Arsenal and PSG. The Gunners have won just once but drawn three, giving them the historical edge. However, they have not faced off since 2016, when they were drawn in the same Champions League group. Both of those fixtures ended in draws, 1-1 in Paris and 2-2 at the Emirates. Arsene Wenger was the manager coming up against Unai Emery. In the home game both sides exchanged leads, with Olivier Giroud on the scoresheet for the hosts before a Marco Verratti own goal.

            TEAM NEWS

            Arsenal

Martin Odegaard remains out but could return in mid-October. New signing Mikel Merino is nearing a comeback, but Tuesday’s game likely comes too soon. Ben White should be fit and available once more.

            PSG

Gianluigi Donnarumma, Marco Asensio and Desire Doue are all doubts for this game. Matvei Safonov will likely start in goal. Vitinha’s availability is more likely, though still in question.

            FORM GUIDE

            Arsenal:

In their last five games, Arsenal have won three and drawn two. The Gunners have managed to maintain their unbeaten start to the campaign despite a number of absentees. This run started with the North London Derby against Tottenham. They beat their rivals 1-0 away from home courtesy of a Gabriel winner.

The first Champions League action of the season followed, but they were held to a goalless draw by Italian side Atalanta. Their biggest test of the season came at champions Man City, in which they came away with a 2-2 draw in an extraordinary game. Erling Haaland put the hosts in front, before Mikel Arteta’s side turned it around through Riccardo Calafiori and Gabriel. A second yellow card to Leandro Trossard shifted the momentum back into City’s favour, and the home side dominated the second half. However, they did not find an equaliser until the 98th minute. John Stones scored the goal.

A 5-1 win at home to Bolton comfortably saw them through to the fourth round of the EFL Cup. Seventeen-year old Ethan Nwaneri scored twice, and Raheem Sterling netted his first goal for the club. Arsenal continued their strong start to the league season with a 4-2 win over Leicester last time out. After taking a 2-0 lead, a brace from James Justin levelled it up at 2-2. An own goal clinched the win deep into stoppage time before Havertz added a fourth to put it to bed.

            PSG:

In their last five games, PSG have won four and drawn one. It has been a strong start to the season for PSG, which they continued with a 3-1 win at home to Rennes in their most recent game. Bradley Barcola scored a brace before Lee Kang-in added a third to secure a comfortable three points.

This followed their first and only dropped points of the campaign as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Reims. Keito Nakamura gave the hosts an early lead, but Ousmane Dembele kept their unbeaten start in tact with a 68th minute equaliser. Spanish side Girona were PSG’s first opponents in the Champions League, and they picked up a narrow 1-0 win. It came in dramatic fashion, with Girona goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga scoring an own goal at the death.

Two 3-1 victories started this run. Firstly against Lille they took a 2-0 lead into half-time, before scoring a third after Lille had halved the deficit. They returned home to take on Brest, beating them by the same scoreline. The hosts had to come from behind in this one, with goals from Dembele (x2) and Fabian Ruiz.
