The spot in the Champions League next year is not yet secured for Atletico Madrid, with Atletico Bilbao hot on their heels and Girona and Barcelona a bit further up the road. Alaves, however, could launch a late push for the top half of the table.

Back in La Liga, Atletico faced Girona. Artem Dovbyk opened the scoring in the fourth minute for Girona, but a penalty from Griezmann and a goal from Angel Correa gave Atletico the 2 - 1 lead at halftime. Griezmann scored again in the second half to secure the 3 - 1 win for Atletico.

Atletico Madrid also make the trip to Germany on Tuesday to take on Borussia Dortmund in the second leg of the Champions League Quarter Final.
