Both Barcelona and Mallorca will be desperate for three points to maintain or improve their standing in the La Liga table. The hosts currently sit third, following their 0-0 draw against Athletic Bilbao at the weekend. They failed to take advantage of dropped points by Real Madrid, as their already slim title hopes slipped away further. However, they can get back on track with a victory against relegation-battling Mallorca, and put some pressure on both Real and Girona, who are second.

Mallorca, in contrast, are hoping to extend the gap between themselves and the bottom three, as they try to secure a fourth consecutive season in the top flight. Their recent 1-0 victory over Girona means they moved up to 15th, eight points above Cadiz who are in 18th. Any points against Barcelona could give them even more breathing room.

Xavi’s side have scored 12 goals in their last five league games, and will be confident in adding to that tally when they take on a defence which has kept just one clean sheet in their last 10 games. Robert Lewandowski will be the main scoring threat, with 12 goals so far this season. The visitors will have a tough time troubling the hosts’ defence, as they have only found the back of the net 23 times. Only Cadiz have scored less. If they are to get on the scoresheet, Vedat Muriqi may be the player to rely on.

The two sides have met 16 times in La Liga, dating back to 2009. Barcelona, unsurprisingly, have been dominant, winning 13 of them. Mallorca have won once, which came in 2009, with a 1-0 result. Barca’s dominance is highlighted by 11 wins in a row, though this streak was ended in the reverse fixture earlier this season. This weekend’s visitors managed to pick up a 2-2 draw at home, but they would have been disappointed not to come away with more as they took the lead twice in the game.

Form Guide

Barcelona Form Guide

In their last five games, Barcelona have won two and drawn three. Four of these fixtures were in La Liga, and they picked up eight points from a possible 12. The most recent came at Athletic Bilbao, as they drew 0-0.

This followed a dominant 4-0 victory against Getafe. Four different players were on the scoresheet as Raphinha, Joao Felix, Frenkie De Jong and Fermin Lopez all found the back of the net. A return to European action saw them take on Napoli in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16. The game finished 1-1, but Barca were disappointed not to return home with a lead. Robert Lewandowski put them ahead 15 minutes into the second half, though they could not hold on, conceding an equaliser to Victor Osimhen shortly after.

They needed a dramatic last-minute penalty to get past Celta Vigo. They won 2-1, as Lewandowski broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time. The advantage did not last long, however, as Iago Aspas got his side back on level terms just after the restart. Xavi’s side stole the three points at the death, after being awarded a 97th-minute penalty. Lewandowski converted it to complete a brace.

Granada came to the Nou Camp and gave the hosts a very tough game. Barcelona dropped points as the match ended 3-3. It was a back-and-forth tie with both teams having to come from behind. Lamine Yamal’s 14th-minute goal put Barcelona in front, but the lead was cancelled out before the break. Granada took the lead for a matter of minutes before parity was restored by Lewandowski. The visitors regained their advantage, but once again could not hold on as Yamal grabbed his second.

Mallorca Form Guide

In their last five games, Mallorca have won two, drawn two and lost one. This stretch of games began with a home victory over Rayo Vallecano. They left it late to take victory, but it was a huge three points. The hosts took the lead through Antonio Sanchez before Vallecano equalised with 15 minutes to go. Vedat Muriqi then scored the winner in the 91st minute to condemn the visitors to late defeat. They were then on the wrong side of a 2-1 result against Real Sociedad. It was a dramatic game which saw two red cards and a goal at the death. Mallorca took a very early lead as Sanchez broke the deadlock in the fourth minute. Takefusa Kubo levelled the score before Antonio Raillo saw red for the home team. The game seemed headed for a draw but Mikel Merino’s 93rd minute strike proved the difference. Mallorca were then reduced to nine men as they searched for an equaliser.

They responded to this disappointing setback by drawing 1-1 at Alaves. They fell behind in the 76th minute to a Carlos Benavidez goal, but managed to cancel it out through Matija Nastasic with two minutes remaining. One of their draws came in the Copa Del Rey semi-final second leg as they took on Real Sociedad for the second time in the space of nine days. The result sent the tie to penalties. Mallorca prevailed in the shootout 5-4 to book their place in the final of the competition. This preceded their most recent game last weekend, in which they hosted title challengers Girona. They picked up a 1-0 win thanks to a Jose Manuel Copete winner.

FlashPicks Prediction

Barcelona are undefeated in their last five league games and we expect this to continue. Mallorca will find it difficult away from home. The hosts should have too much for them – Barcelona 3-0 Mallorca
