Sevilla vs Barcelona: Preview, Prediction & Betting Picks

Barcelona look to end the season with three points, as they travel to Sevilla, who themselves are still hoping to climb the table on the final day.

Date: 5/25/24

Kick-off time: 12:00 Pacific Time

Venue: Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium

It is the last game of the season, though there is not much for Barcelona to play for but three points. They will end the campaign in second place, and will finish a minimum nine points behind their arch rivals Real Madrid, who were crowned La Liga champions a couple of weeks ago. Their victory in their last fixture against Rayo Vallecano ensured they cannot finish any lower, as they lead Girona by four points. It means another season in the Champions League, though the future of their manager Xavi is unclear.

Sevilla have endured a disappointing season, with them set for a bottom half finish. They were hovering dangerously close to a relegation battle but were able to steer clear of the bottom part of the table. However, they could still finish as low as 15th and as high as 12th if results go their way. They are in poor form having lost three in a row.

Goals could be prominent in this one, particularly from Barca, as they have been successful in front of goal recently. They have scored at least two goals in each of their last seven games, and should be confident in doing the same against an inconsistent Sevilla side. Robert Lewandowski has been the club’s most prominent goal threat, with 18 goals. The next highest tally is seven, a figure reached by Fermin Lopez, Joao Felix and Ferran Torres. The hosts have been shut out in their last two games, and have generally struggled in front of goal throughout the season. Youssef En-Nesyri has been a bright spark, scoring 15 times for his side.

The last five meetings between these two sides have been largely dominated by Barcelona. They have won four of these games, with the other ending in a 1-1 draw, which came at the beginning of this stretch. The following four games have seen Sevilla fail to score even once, and conceding eight. The reverse fixture earlier this season was a very tight affair, with Barca eventually coming out on top as 1-0 winners at home. The hosts created four big chances, but were unable to capitalise on any of them. Their only goal came courtesy of Sergio Ramos, who put the ball into his own net with just under 15 minutes to go.

Team News

Sevilla team News

Sevilla have a number of season-ending injuries. Isaac Romero, Oliver Torres, Nemanja Gudelj and Djibril Sow have already been ruled out. Erik Lamela has a sprained knee, which he could make a return from.

Barcelona Team News

Frenkie De Jong, Alex Balde and Gavi had already been ruled out for the remainder of the season. Barcelona should have a fully fit squad to choose from otherwise.

Form Guide

Sevilla Form Guide

In their last five games, Sevilla have won one, drawn one and lost three. It has been a disappointing campaign for the Spaniards as they languish in mid-table, highlighted by their recent poor stretch. The run began with dropped points against Real Betis, who were chasing European football. They went behind to a first-half Isco penalty, but found the equaliser quickly in the second through Kike Salas.

They responded well with their only win, and it was a convincing 3-0 victory over relegated Granada. It was fairly even in terms of shot attempts, but they were able to take their opportunities whilst their opponents didn’t. Marcos Acuna put them in front, preceding second half strikes from Youssef En-Nesyri and Dodi Lukebakio. They were unable to carry this winning momentum forward, as they were defeated 3-2 at Villarreal. On two occasions they took they lead, but they were pegged back twice before a dramatic 97th minute winner. En-Nesyri scored a brace for his side.

Another loss followed, this time a 1-0 defeat at home to 18th place Cadiz. They edged possession, but surrendered many chances which their visitors eventually scored from. The only goal came in the 96th minute, marking the second week in a row they lost at the death. Their most recent game was a trip to Athletic Bilbao, in which they lost 2-0. Raul Garcia and Iker Muniain scored two quick-fire goals.

Barcelona Form Guide

In their last five games, Barcelona have won four and lost one. It has been a good stretch for the giants, but they are going to finish behind their rivals Real Madrid once more. This run started with a 4-2 victory at home to Valencia. Both sides exchanged leads with Fermin Lopez putting the hosts ahead before Hugo Duro equalised. Robert Lewandowski scored the first of a hat-trick to level it again after Pepelu turned it around from the spot. Valencia were reduced to 10 men on the stroke of half-time, allowing Barca to dominate the second half.

They were on the wrong end of the same scoreline in the next game as they fell 4-2 at Girona. This result confirmed the title for Real Madrid. Andreas Christensen gave the visitors the lead very early, but the hosts were able to respond immediately through Artem Dovbyk. Lewandowski scored from the spot just before the break, but three goals in 10 second half minutes from Portu (x2) and Miguel Gutierrez completed the comeback.

It was a good response with a 2-0 win over Real Sociedad. Youngster Lamine Yamal opened the scoring just before the break. The victory was confirmed with a Raphinha penalty in second half stoppage time. They repeated this score away at Almeria as they comfortably won. Lopez scored a brace to secure victory. Their most recent game was a home fixture against Rayo Vallecano. They won 3-0 with goals from Lewandowski and Pedri (x2).

FlashPicks Prediction

Barcelona will want to end the season with a win despite their place in the top two being cemented. Sevilla have had a disappointing campaign, and we expect that to be reflected in the final result, with the visitors coming away with a victory – Sevilla 1-3 Barcelona
