Both the Netherlands and Scotland are looking forward to a big summer in the European Championships and will be aiming for a win to set themselves up for the tournament.

The Netherlands secured their qualification for the European Championships by finishing second in their group. Group B saw them take on World Cup Finalists France, Greece, the Republic of Ireland and Gibraltar. In eight games, The Oranje picked up six wins and two losses which left them on 18 points, enough for qualification but three points from France.

The last tournament action for the Netherlands was at the 2022 World Cup. With two wins and a draw, The Oranje finished top of their group and faced the US in the Round of 16. The 3 - 1 win saw them take on Argentina next, but a penalty loss to eventual winners saw the Netherlands crash out at the Quarter-finals.

Scotland also finished second in their European Qualifiers group. Group A housed Spain, Norway, Georgia and Cyprus and in eight games, The Scots picked up five wins, two draws and one loss, leaving them on 17 points, six points within qualification and four points from Spain.

The Scots, however, failed to even qualify for the 2022 World Cup. Scotland found themselves in Group F for the European Qualifiers. In ten games, Scotland had ten seven wins, two draws and one loss, but their 23 points only left them in the Play-offs. However, a 3 - 1 loss to Ukraine saw Scotland miss out on the World Cup.

The Netherlands and Scotland have met 20 times in their histories, with the first meeting coming in the Holland Unofficial back in 1929. The Oranje have the better record in the fixture with nine wins in comparison to Scotland’s six wins, with the other five games ending in a draw.

The last five games in this fixture have seen four wins for the Netherlands and one draw. In fact, Scotland have not beaten the Netherlands since 2003 at the Euros and before that hadn’t beaten The Oranje since 1982.

Form Guide

In the last five games in all competitions, the Netherlands have four wins and one loss.

The European Qualifiers saw the Netherlands travel to Aviva Stadium to take on Ireland. The Oranje were behind early on, as Adam Idah converted his penalty in the fourth minute. However, Cody Gakpo equalised before halftime through his own penalty. Early in the second half Wout Weghorst found the back of the net to secure the 2 - 1 win.

The next time out in the Qualifiers saw the Netherlands host France. Kylian Mbappe opened the scoring in the seventh minute and doubled Les Bleus’ lead in the first ten minutes of the second half. Quilinschy Hartman did get the Netherlands on the scoresheet in the last ten minutes but France held on for the 2 - 1 win.

The Netherlands bounced back next time out against Greece. A goalless 90 minutes made it seem that the game would end in a 0 - 0 draw. However, Virgil van Dijk converted his 93rd minute penalty to give The Oranje the 1 - 0 win.

It was another 1 - 0 win for the Netherlands, this time against Ireland. Weghorst scored again against Ireland, this time in the 11th minute to give the Netherlands the 1 - 0 win as Ireland only managed one shot on target.

The last time out for the Netherlands was against Gibraltar. A hat-trick from Calvin Stengs and goals from Mats Wieffer, Teun Koopmeiners and Gakpo gave the Netherlands the 6 - 0 win.

In their last five games in all competitions, Scotland have two draws and three losses.

An international friendly saw Scotland host their oldest rivals, England. Goals from Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham gave England the 2 - 0 lead at halftime but an own goal from Harry Maguire got Scotland on the scoresheet in the 67th minute. However, a goal from Harry Kane wrapped up the 3 - 1 win for the Auld Enemy.

Back in the European Qualifiers, Scotland travelled to the Estadio de La Cartuja to take on Spain. After a goalless first half, Alvaro Morata and Oihan Sancet both scored late on to give Spain the 2 - 0 win.

Another friendly saw Scotland face France. Gilmour gave Scotland the lead in the 11th minute but a brace from Benjamin Pavard and a penalty from Mbappe gave France the 3 - 1 lead at halftime. Kingsley Coman also grabbed a goal in the second half to give France the 4 - 1 win.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring for Georgia to give them the 1 - 0 lead at halftime. McTominay equalised early in the second half but another goal from Kvaratskhelia regained the lead for Georgia. However, Lawrence Shankland scored in the 93rd minute to grab a 2 - 2 draw.

The most recent outing for Scotland was against Norway. Aron Donnum gave Norway the lead in the third minute but a penalty from McGinn equalised for Scotland within ten minutes. Jorgen Strand Larsen regained the lead for Norway but Scotland equalised again before halftime through an own goal from Leo Skiri Ostigard. Scotland then took the lead through Stuart Armstrong but a late Mohamed Elyounoussi forced a 3 - 3 draw.

FlashPicks Prediction

The Netherlands are likely to extend their successful run against Scotland, but both teams are likely to be on the scoresheet. Netherlands 2-1 Scotland
