The battle for Champions League football next season is heating up, with Villa looking for their first appearance in the competition since 1981. Brentford, however, find themselves much closer to the relegation battle then they would’ve wanted.

Aston Villa currently sit fourth in the Premier League. In 30 games, Villa have 18 wins, five draws and seven losses which leaves them on 59 points, three points above Tottenham.

Villa have been amongst the goals this season, scoring 62 goals, an average of 2.07 goals a game. Defensively, Villa have also impressed, conceding 42 goals and keeping seven clean sheets.

Brentford, on the other hand, currently sit 15th in the Premier League after 30 games. The Bees have seven wins, six draws and 17 losses, leaving them on 27 points, five points above the relegation zone.

The Bees have been a bit better in front of goal than their league placement would suggest, scoring 42 goals and having an average of 1.40 goals a game. However, Brentford have struggled at the other end of the pitch, conceding 55 goals and keeping four clean sheets.

Despite the first meeting between the two sides coming back in 1935, Aston Villa and Brentford have met just 19 times. In fact, the two teams did not meet once between 1953 and 2016. Villa have the better record in the fixture with eight wins in comparison to Brentford’s four wins, a draw happening on seven occasions.

In the last five games in this fixture there have been two wins for Aston Villa, two draws and one win for Brentford. However, this fixture usually sees both teams on the scoresheet with both teams scoring in four of the last five games.

Form Guide

In their last five games in all competitions, Aston Villa have two wins, two draws and one loss.

In the first leg of the Europa Conference League Round of 16, Aston Villa made the trip to Amsterdam to take on Ajax. Both teams could only manage one shot on target and in the last ten minutes Ezri Konsa was sent off for Villa and Tristan Gooijer was sent off for Ajax in a 0 - 0 draw.

Back in the Premier League, Villa hosted Tottenham in a big game in the top four race. After a goalless first half, both James Maddison and Brennan Johnson scored in quick succession to give Tottenham the 2 - 0 lead within ten minutes of the second half. Villa were then down to ten men with McGinn’s red card and Son Heung-min and Timo Werner scored in extra time to give Spurs a big 4 - 0 win.

The second leg of the Europa Conference League Round of 16 saw Villa host Ajax. Ollie Watkins, Leon Bailey, Jhon Duran and Moussa Diaby in the 4 - 0 win for Villa with Ajax down to ten men again, this time Sivert Mannsverk.

The trip to the London Stadium was a controversial one. Michail Antonio opened the scoring for West Ham but Nicolo Zaniolo equalised with ten minutes to go. The game finished in a 1 - 1 draw with the six minute VAR check at the end to deny a West Ham win.

Villa were back to winning ways in the Premier League against Wolves. Diaby and Konsa were both on the scoresheet as Villa grabbed a 2 - 0 win.

Aston Villa also have a trip to the Etihad to take on Manchester City on Wednesday in the Premier League.

In their last five games in all competitions, Brentford have two draws and three losses.

Jarrod Bowen scored twice to give West Ham the 2 - 0 lead before the ten minute mark, but Neal Maupay scored to get Brentford on the scoresheet before halftime. However, in the second half, Bowen completed his hat-trick and Emerson Palmieri joined him on the scoresheet to make Yoane Wissa’s late goal just a consolation in the 4 - 2 loss.

The Bees were once again behind at the break, this time against Chelsea with Nicolas Jackson scoring for The Blues. Mads Roerslev and Wissa both scored to give Brentford the lead going into the last 20 minutes, but a goal from Axel Disasi grabbed a 2 - 2 draw for Chelsea.

The trip to the Emirates saw Declan Rice open the scoring for Arsenal early but Wissa drew Brentford level in the added time of the first half. However, with just four minutes to go Kai Havertz found the back of the net to give Arsenal the 2 - 1 win.

Reguilon was shown a red in the eighth minute for Brentford, which left them vulnerable as a penalty from Jacob Bruun Larsen and a goal from David Fofana gave Burnley the 2 - 0 lead at the hour mark. Kristoffer Ajer did score for The Bees late on but Burnley held on for the 2 - 1 win.

The visit from Manchester United saw Brentford register an impressive 31 shots, but Mason Mount thought he had won it for United with his goal in the 96th minute. However, a 99th minute goal from Ajer grabbed a 1 - 1 draw for The Bees.

Brentford also host Brighton in the Premier League on Wednesday.
