A trip to Old Trafford during a title race will make this feisty fixture even more important for Liverpool, especially after the loss in the FA Cup. United have had a rollercoaster season but will be looking to replicate the high of the win before the international break.

Manchester United currently sit sixth in the Premier League after 29 games. The Red Devils have 15 wins, three draws and 11 losses, leaving them on 48 points, eight points behind fifth Tottenham.

The Red Devils have struggled in front of goal this season, scoring just 40 goals in 29 games, an average of 1.38 goals a game. United have been much better at the other end of the pitch, conceding 40 goals and keeping eight clean sheets.

Liverpool, on the other hand, currently sit top of the Premier League. In 29 games, Liverpool have 20 wins, seven draws and two losses which leaves them two points above Arsenal and three points above Man City.

The Reds have been amongst the goals this season, scoring 65 goals which gives them an average of 2.32 goals a game. Liverpool have been just as consistent defensively, conceding 27 goals and keeping nine clean sheets.

Manchester United vs Liverpool is a historic fixture with the two sides meeting on 241 occasions, the first meeting coming back in a 1894 test match. The Red Devils have the better record in the fixture with 91 wins in comparison to Liverpool’s 81 wins, the other 69 games ending in a draw.

In the last five games in this fixture, both teams have two wins each with one draw coming back in December, a 0 - 0 draw in the Premier League. Other than that goalless draw, this fixture usually promises goals, with two of the last three games in the fixture having seven goals.

In the Fifth Round of the FA Cup, Man United took on fellow Premier League side Nottingham Forest. United left it late to finally convert one of their seven shots on target, with Casemiro finding the back of the net in the 89th minute.

Back in the Premier League, United made the short trip to the Etihad to take on neighbours Manchester City. United took an important lead into halftime with a goal from Marcus Rashford in the eighth minute. However, in the second half, a brace from Phil Foden and an extra time goal from Erling Haaland gave City the 3 - 1 win.

United bounced back the next time out against Everton. Despite The Toffees having eight more shots, Bruno Fernandes and Rashford both converted their penalties in the first half to give The Red Devils a big 2 - 0 win.

Both goals in the game against Brentford came in extra time. United took the lead in the 96th minute with Mason Mount bagging his first goal for The Red Devils, however, Brentford finally converted one of their 31 shots with Kristoffer Ajer scoring in the 99th minute to force a 1 - 1 draw.

Man United also take on Chelsea on Thursday in the Premier League.

In their last five games in all competitions, Liverpool have three wins, one draw and one loss.

The first leg of the Europa League Round of 16, Liverpool travelled to the Czech Republic to take on Sparta Prague. A penalty from Alexis Mac Allister and a brace from Nunez gave Liverpool the 3 - 0 lead at halftime, but an own goal from Conor Bradley got Sparta on the scoresheet a minute into the second half. However, goals from Luis Diaz and Dominik Szoboszlai secured a 5 - 1 win for Liverpool.

Back in the Premier League, Liverpool hosted Man City in a big game. John Stones opened the scoring for City to give them the lead at halftime but another penalty from Mac Allister rescued a 1 - 1 draw for Liverpool.

The second leg of the Europa League Round of 16 saw Liverpool host Sparta Prague. Nunez, Bobby Clark and Mo Salah all scored before the ten minute mark. Cody Gakpo added another before Velijko Birmancevic scored to make it 4 - 1 at halftime. Gakpo bagged another in the second half and was joined on the scoresheet by Szoboszlai in the 6 - 1 win for Liverpool.

The Reds hosted Brighton in a game that saw them go top of the table. Danny Welbeck opened the scoring in the first 90 seconds but goals from Diaz and Salah gave Liverpool the comeback 2 - 1 win.

Liverpool also host Sheffield United on Thursday in the Premier League.

The FA Cup Quarter Finals saw Man United host Liverpool. Scott McTominay opened the scoring early for United but a quickfire double from Mac Allister and Salah gave Liverpool the 2 - 1 lead at halftime. Antony scored with just minutes left to send the tie to extra time, where Liverpool struck first through Harvey Elliot. However, goals from Rashford and Amad grabbed a 4 - 3 win for United, with Amad sent off just seconds later.
