The battle for Premier League safety is heating up with just three games to go. Burnley are still within touching distance of safety whereas Newcastle need a win to get themselves back in the running for European football.

Burnley currently sit 19th in the Premier League after 35 games. The Clarets have five wins, nine draws and 21 losses, leaving them on 24 points, two points from safety.

The Clarets have struggled in front of goal this season, scoring 37 goals in 35 games, an average of 1.09 goals a game. Burnley have also struggled at the other end of the pitch, conceding 70 goals and keeping just two clean sheets.

Newcastle, on the other hand, currently sit seventh in the Premier League. In 34 games, The Magpies have 16 wins, five draws and 13 losses which leaves them on 53 points, one point behind Manchester United.

The Magpies have been impressive in front of goal this season, scoring 69 goals which is an average of 2.09 goals a game. At the other end of the pitch, however, Newcastle have conceded 55 goals but have kept ten clean sheets.

Burnley and Newcastle have met 113 times in their histories, with the first meeting coming all the way back in the 1895 FA Cup. Not much separates the two sides with Newcastle having 48 wins and Burnley having 44 wins, the other 21 games ending in a draw.

The last five games in this fixture have seen four wins for Newcaslte and one win for Burnley, a 4 - 3 win in a penalty shootout after a 0 - 0 draw in the League Cup. Two of the last five games have also seen both sides on the scoresheet.

Form Guide

In their last five games in all competitions, Burnley have one win, three draws and one loss.

Jacob Bruun Larsen opened the scoring for Burnley in the 37th minute but Rayan Ait-Nouri equalised for Wolves in the first half added time. Burnley did register six shots on target in comparison to Wolves’ two shots on target, but were unable to find the back of the net and had to settle for the 1 - 1 draw.

However, the next time out against Everton, Burnley had just one shot on target in 63% of the possession. Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored the only goal of the game on the stroke of halftime as Burnley slumped to a 1 - 0 loss, with Dara O’Shea sent off for Burnley in the second half.

Burnley took the lead against Brighton with just 15 minutes to go, with Josh Brownhill on the scoresheet for The Clarets. However, just five minutes later an own goal from Burnley goalkeeper Arijanet Muric gave Brighton the 1 - 1 draw.

In a big game at the bottom of the table, Burnley took on Sheffield United. Larsen and Lorenz Assignon both scored to give Burnley the 2 - 0 lead at halftime. Gustavo Hamer got Sheffield United on the scoresheet early in the second half but goals from Foster and Johann Berg Gudmundsson secured the 4 - 1 win over The Blades.

The last time out for Burnley was against Manchester United. After a goalless first half, Antony found the back of the net for United with ten minutes to go. However, Andre Onana gave away a penalty in the 87th minute which Zeki Amdouni converted to grab a 1 - 1 draw for Burnley.

In their last five games in all competitions, Newcastle have three wins, one draw and one loss.

Newcastle opened the scoring early on with Alexander Isak finding the back of the net in the 15th minute. However, Calvert-Lewin converted his penalty with just two minutes to go to rescue a 1 - 1 draw for Everton.

Despite having just 33% of the possession, Newcastle scored the only goal of the game in the 81st minute. Bruno Guimaraes scored for The Magpies to give them the 1 - 0 win over Fulham.

The visit from Tottenham saw Newcastle put a big dent in the Spurs’ European football hopes. A brace from Isak and goals from Anthony Gordon and Fabian Schar gave Newcastle the 4 - 0 win despite having just 27% of the possession.

However, a trip to South London, saw Newcastle only register seven shots and two shots on target in comparison to Crystal Palace’s 20 shots with seven of them on target. Jean-Philippe Mateta scored twice in the second half to give The Eagles the 2 - 0 win.

The most recent outing for Newcastle was against Sheffield United. Anel Ahmedhodzic opened the scoring for The Blades in the fifth minute but a brace from Isak, goals from Guimaraes and Callum Wilson and an own goal from Ben Osborn gave Newcastle the 5 - 1 win.

FlashPicks Prediction

Both Burnley and Newcastle have picked up both good results and poor results recently, but Newcastle are likely to pick up the win this weekend. However, this is also likely to be a tight game with both teams scoring. Burnley 1 - 2 Newcastle.
