Roma vs Juventus: Preview, Prediction & Betting Tips

Location: Stadio Olimpico

Date: 05/05/2024

Kick-Off: 19:45 PM
The big game in Serie A next weekend takes place in Serie A at the Stadio Olimpico. Daniele de Rossi’s Roma side hosts Juventus with potential Champions League qualification places at stake as we approach the business stages of the season.

The hosts have endured a good campaign, if you compare that to what they previously had under Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese manager was dismissed due to poor form and his replacement Daniele de Rossi has certainly improved their league standing to the point where his Roma side could be facing European elite next season.

Roma are currently fifth placed after 34 games played, following their draw against Napoli. Daniele de Rossi’s side are currently four points Bologna and will be buoyed by the fact that Thiago Motta’s side dropped points at home to relegation candidates Udinese.

If Roma are to beat Napoli in their game in hand, they would move two points behind Bologna who are in fourth. Roma could find themselves in a position where after next weekend they will be the fourth best team in Italy, which would complete a remarkable turnaround since the arrival of Daniele de Rossi.

The hosts also have an alternative route into the Champions League via the Europa League. Roma defeated AC Milan in the quarter-final of the Europa League to set up a semi-final clash against the favourites Bayer Leverkusen. The tie will pit arguably the two best teams remaining in the competition, with Bayer Leverkusen on course to complete an unprecedented unbeaten treble.

For this game against Juventus, Roma can potentially bring Juventus into a conversation where even their top four place isn’t secure. Roma and Juventus are separated by eight points so a win for Roma over Napoli and Juventus will move Roma two points behind. Juventus’ position will be further compromised if Bologna was also taking advantage.
Juventus are currently third in the league, following their recent 0-0 draw over AC Milan. Milan were rather fortunate to obtain a draw by all accounts, having conceded 18 shots in which seven were on target. Juventus spurred chances late on through Danilo, who saw his effort saved from two yards out from an incredibly difficult angle.

The Old Lady are five points behind AC Milan in the race for second place, although they are only two points ahead of Bologna who are closing them down for third. It’s imperative that Juventus avoid defeat so they are not brought into the mix with the likes of Roma and Bologna.

To secure Champions League football, Juventus would only need two wins out of their last four league games, but it would also require a win over Roma at the weekend. If they fail to beat Roma, Juventus will have to win all three games of their season remaining just to make sure.

In the previous league meeting between the two sides, Juventus were the winners at the Allianz Stadium. Adrien Rabiot was the only scorer that game for the home side in the 47th minute.

Recent Form

The recent history between the two teams suggests that Juventus will be the favourites for this game at the Stadio Olimpico. Juventus have won three out of the last five meetings with Roma, with the hosts only winning once. The remaining game ended in a draw.

The fixture at the Stadio Olimpico resulted in a 1-0 win for Roma. Roma’s winner came through Gianluca Mancini in the 53rd minute. Moise Kean was dismissed in the 90th minute for violent conduct. Rui Patricio was awarded the man of the match for Roma in that game.

This game will be one to keep note of in terms of goals scored. On average this fixture provides 2.65 goals per match, in the 55 competitive meetings between the two sides. The last two meetings between the sides have resulted in shutouts for the home side in this fixture.

In the last nine games between the two sides, there have been three dismissals. Interestingly, all three dismissals have fallen to the away side and in all cases, it was Juventus were the ill-disciplined side.

Juventus last achieved the league double over Roma in the 2021/22 season. Juventus won the fixture at the Stadio Olimpico 4-3, in which Juventus were down to ten men in that game. Interestingly, Roma haven’t achieved a league double over Juventus in quite some time.

Roma’s home form will be key for this game against Juventus. The hosts have a tremendous record at the Stadio Olimpico this season as it stands. Roma have won three out of their last five league games at home and have recorded a 2.21 points per game average.

Roma have played 17 games at home this season, having won 11, drawn three times and losing only three times. Roma have won 65% of their home games this season and haven’t failed to score in any of their games in front of their home crowd.

In front of their home faithful, Roma have kept a 41% clean sheet record and have conceded 1.06 goals per game at home. The home side are prolific in front of goal having scored 2.12 goals per game at home this season.Their last home game, they suffered a huge blow in their chances for Champions League qualification. Roma lost 3-1 at home to Bologna after in their game prior to that defeat they won their local derby against Lazio by a single goal.

Juventus on the other hand are winless in their last four games. The Old Lady have drawn three out of their last five games, only winning once. The visitors have not won in their last five away from home either which presents a worry for the weekend.

Allegri’s side have played 17 games away from home this season, winning eight of those, drawing five and losing the remaining four games. Juventus have averaged 1.71 points per game away from the Allianz this season.

Juventus have a respectable record when it comes to clean sheet percentages away from home, with a 41% recorded and having only conceded 0.94 goals per game away from home.

Dusan Vlahovic will be important for Juventus at the weekend. The Serbian striker has 16 goals in Serie A this season and he averages a goal every 130 minutes.

Team News

Romelu Lukaku and Chris Smalling will both be out with injuries. Although, Lukaku could make a late return to the side but it’s unexpected at this stage. Diego Llorente and Leandro Paredes should be back in contention for Daniele De Rossi after serving their suspension.

Moise Kean is the only injury concern that Massimiliano Allegri must concern himself with. Andrea Cambiaso and Timothy Weah are the only suspension concerns.

FOOTY ACCMULATORS PREDICTION

It's going to be difficult to separate these two teams. Roma have been great under Daniele de Rossi, although Juventus have accumulated the most draws in the top three.

Roma 1-1 Juventus.
