USA vs England Same Game Parlay

It wasn’t the result in the World Cup opener the United States were hoping for, but on Matchday 2 they face England in hopes of redeeming themselves. The Three Lions impressed in their first game beating Iran 6-2, while the US failed to beat Wales in a 1-1 draw. This will undoubtedly be the biggest challenge the Americans face in the group stage as England are one of the favorites to go all the way. The stats don’t favor the US here as they’ve lost 4 of the last 5 meetings, including the most recent one played back in 2018 at Wembley. A win for England here would see them through the group stage, which is something they’ll definitely want to do, so that pressure is off them in the final match against Wales. Since 1995, England is 8-1-2 vs the United States, so anything but an England win here would be surprising.

During World Cup qualifying, England was one of the most prolific teams finishing with a goal difference of +36. They continued strongly in Qatar and have already scored 6 in just one game played, so the offense is clicking. Their defense has been suspect for years, especially with Harry Maguire who has been out of form at Manchester United for a while now. They conceded 2 in the opener, it could have been more if the Iranians were more prolific in front of goal. The US had some really good moments in the Wales game, I don’t think they will go down without a fight here. The first 30 minutes should be a feel out period for the Americans, this team scores most of their goals in the final 60 minute of games with 90% of them lately coming during that period. This World Cup has gotten off to a fast start in terms of goals, I’m expecting that to continue here. The US have nothing to lose, so they can play a free flowing attacking game which should result with goals on both ends.

The odds on Pulisic to net here are really high, but don’t let that discourage you. Midfield players are generally priced higher as they aren’t as close to the goal as forwards, so you can get really solid value on bets like these. I saw a lot of good things from him in the game against Wales where he assisted on the only US goal. A lot of the US attacks went through him in that game, he totaled 75 touches which is only 2nd to Tyler Adams in midfield. He should be extra motivated playing England as that’s where he plays his club football at Chelsea. His numbers for the USMNT speak for themselves, in 53 appearances he has 21 goals and 11 assists. He was their best goalscorer in World Cup Qualifying with 5 goals to his name. He also scored the winning goal against Mexico in the inaugural Concacaf Nations League Final last year, so he’s built for the big moments. It doesn’t get any bigger than the World Cup, so hopefully he can deliver in this one.
