The Subway Series starts tonight with plenty of fanfare. It’s been a long time since the Yankees and Mets were both highly competitive teams and it’s great news for the city. The starting matchup tonight is between Jordan Montgomery and Taijuan Walker, so you can understand why the total is so low. Both starters have been great on the mound this year, both with an ERA close to 3 and WHIP under 1.1.

But what this really comes down to is there are far more situations where this ends up going high scoring than the alternative. Both teams have excellent bats, the Yankees scoring the most in the league at 5.36 per game and the Mets not far behind at 6 th in the league with 4.66 per game. The Yankees score actually even more runs away from home as well, at 5.46 per game. Both teams take an extraordinarily high number of runs to get beat on a normal basis. That doesn’t become any less true against better teams.

We’ve hit one half of the home run parlay in 3 of our last 4, it’s only a matter of time now. This one starts in Boston with Xander Bogaerts who isn’t the typical slugger but can get one over the fence without a problem. He’s batting .312 on the season and is on a 3-game hit streak. He’s facing Bryan Shaw who has been very hittable this year. He’ll get plenty of good chances tonight against Shaw and against a sub-par bullpen.

Our second leg comes out of Denver where Kris Bryant has been great, as long as he can stay on the field. There are some questions about whether he’ll play today but if he does this is the best pick available. He took one over the fence in his last game in Milwaukee which takes a lot more than hitting a home run in his home park. He’ll get to face Michael Kopech as well who gives up plenty of hard hits. Bryant has 5 home runs in the last 13 games and if healthy has a great chance to hit one tonight.
