Tampa Bay Rays (43-37) @ Boston Red Sox (45-35)

Boston has a tough matchup tonight at home but all indications lately are that they are up for the challenge. Nick Pivetta will take the mound for the Sox, something the home crowd will be very happy to see. Pivetta has been excellent recently, surrendering no more than 2 runs in each of his last 4 starts. In those 4 starts he’s also pitched 28 innings and struck out 22 batters (10 in one game against St Louis). He’s hitting his stride with the best of them.

We also got to see the Rays offense last night struggle, with only 2 hits and 2 walks the whole night. It’s a testament to the starter without a doubt, but also to the excellent bullpen. We can’t expect the Sox to repeat quite as dominant of a pitching night, but the odds right now are skewed too far to the Rays.

Home Run Parlay

Two stars in the parlay today from opposite coasts. The Mets take on the Reds in Cincinnati and are rightfully heavy favorites. Pete Alonso is my favorite home run pick for today for a few reasons. He’ll have the platoon advantage against the young lefty starter Nick Lodolo. Lodolo has only started 3 games this season and surrendered 9 earned runs over 14 innings. Alonso has never faced him before but no one has been able to contain him yet so I wouldn’t expect Lodolo to be that guy.

Since returning from the IL, Mookie Betts has quickly proven that there’s no rust. He’s got 3 hits in 2 games including 2 deep doubles. In 14 career at bats against German Marquez, he’s got 5 hits and 2 walks, resulting in an impressive .438 OBP. At the home stadium tonight he’ll have a great chance to take one out of the park against a subpar starter/bullpen.
