Milwaukee Brewers (57-45) @ Pitssburgh Pirates (40-62)

We’re officially at trade deadline day and we’ve figured out exactly who are buyers and who are sellers. Some confusing deals (see Red Sox and Brewers) and others that make perfect sense but undoubtedly one of these teams has done enough to take home the Commissioners Trophy. Now while I did throw some shade at the Brewers over the Hader deal, it’s not completely out of nowhere. Hader’s value dropped slightly this year and they can’t afford him either way. But it hurts to trade the best player at a position when you have title considerations. Luckily, they still have the best starter in the NL and he’ll be taking the mound tonight.

Corbin Burnes has been lights out this year and his momentum is only building. He hasn’t given up more than 3 runs since early June and is rocking a 2.0 ERA for July. Even better news, he gets to face off against the Pirates today. Burnes has bodied the Pirates this year, giving up only 5 hits and 3 runs over 13 innings. But even more importantly, the Brewers have destroyed the Pirates this year. They’ve won 9 of their 13 matchups this year, with an average winning margin of 4.1 runs. With Burnes on the mound the Brewers look like a no brainer tonight.

We’re looking for a win tonight ok? Yes Aaron Judge is not providing a TON of value at +175, but the man has been a cheat code since the All-Star break. 5 home runs in his last 5 games. 10 home runs in his last 11 games. I wouldn’t blame you to bet on the star to hit two tonight, because he’s done in 3 times in the last 3 weeks. He’s hitting absolutely everyone and although talented, Logan Gilbert throws hard and if Judge gets even halfway decent contact into right field, he’ll be going over the short porch, there’s no doubt in my mind.

On the other side we’ve got Judge’s former teammate Gary Sanchez. The two walked parallel paths for a few years on who would turn into the star in New York but Sanchez has found his place in Minnesota. He hasn’t had exactly the season some hoped for but the young catcher has got knockout power and a good matchup tonight. Matt Manning is starting for the Tigers who have had a very Tigers-like season. Manning has been ok but like Gilbert, he throws fast and is hit hard. A lot of the advanced statistics on Manning are not helpful since the sample size is so small but that youth is a recipe for giving up home runs.
