Fresh off of their 15-6 dismantling of the Giants on Sunday Night baseball, I will be looking for the Cardinals to get off to another quick start in this one.
Trevor Williams will be appearing in his 6th game of the season, and making only his second start. He likely will not pitch more than 3-4 innings in this one, but I am hopeful the Cardinals bats get to him quickly. Trevor has a 5.73 ERA, 1.64 WHIP, and got knocked around by the Diamondbacks offense for 7 hits and 4 runs in his lone start this season (2 innings). Cards hitters have had great success against Trevor in their career as well. Current St. Louis batters have 37 hits in 107 at bats (.346 average) with 7 doubles, 4 home runs, and 14 RBI.Β
On the other side, Miles Mikolas will be taking the mound for the Cardinals. Miles has been terrific to begin the 2022 season. He has a 1.49 ERA, .94 WHIP, and a 3-1 record. More importantly to us, he has not lost a first five ML so far this season (4-0-3). Opposing batters are having a very difficult time hitting the ball hard off of him which has him in the 91st percentile of hard hit% and 82nd in exit velocity. While he doesnβt miss many bats with his stuff, guys have a hard time getting solid contact vs him, especially vs his slider and sinker. He has also had terrific success vs current Met batters. They have 10 hits in 79 at bats (.126 average), featuring only 2 doubles, 0 home runs, and 4 RBI.Β
I love this matchup for the Cardinals, and think they have a lead after 5 innings tonight.
