Dylan Cease has struggled a bit in his past few starts. He is coming off a 3 inning 4 strikeout game vs the Red Sox where he allowed 7 earned runs, and 2 starts prior got knocked around by the Yanks for 6 runs. He still managed 11 K in that one though. His recent performances create a beautiful buy low spot for us in a dream spot.
Dylan is amongst the best strikeout guys in the league. He is currently 4th in strikeouts with 71, and was 7th in the league last season. He is in the 99th percentile in K per inning at 1.54 per inning. He is in the 97th percentile in K%, 91st percentile in whiff%, and 84th percentile in chase rate. He has a 5 pitch arsenal that mostly focuses on 4 seamer, slider, and curve. He has 3 pitches with a 35.8% or better whiff rate. He has 8 or more K in 7/9, and has 4 games with 9 or more K.
As I mentioned, I love this matchup for Dylan. The Cubs are 7th in the league in K per game. They have a 25.0% K rate vs righties for the season, and have gotten worse over the last 30 days where they have a 27.2% K rate. They have not faced many pitchers with Dylan’s skill set yet this season, and I think he has a great shot to climb the ladder today.
