Perhaps the surprise of the early season is how bad the Red Sox have been. They are 28th in the league at 3.28 runs per game and 29th in on base percentage. They are 20th in strikeouts per game so not the greatest target for K in the league, but allow pitchers to go deep into games and good pitchers have torn them up several times this season. They struck out 8 times vs Cease, 11 times vs Ohtani, 7 times to Manoah, 9 times to Guasman, and even 6 from Jordan Lyles on 5/1. Tonight they face Kyle Wright who is off to a phenomenal start to the season.
Kyle has taken the league by storm so far this season. He is 7th in the league with a 1.74 ERA and has racked up 37 K in 31 innings. He has especially enjoyed his starts at home. He is 3-0 with a 0.47 ERA. He has struck out 25 in 19 innings. 4 of his 5 starts have been at night where he is 3-0 with a 1.13 ERA and 34 K in 24 innings. Kyle has hit his K prop in 4/5Β this season, averaging 7.4 K per game. He averages 91.4 pitches a game with 92+ pitches in 4 straight, mix that with the Red Sox inability to get on base and I anticipate Kyle pitching deep into this game, and should be able to pick up 6 K along the way.
