Atlanta Hawks vs Sacramento Kings: Betting Tips, Prediction & Betting Odds

A worrying sign for all bettors wagering on this game coming out of Atlanta is the status of Trae Young who has been placed in the concussion protocols and will be out for a significant period of time. That’s a big blow for the Hawks’ ambitions here, Young averages close to 27 points and 11 assists per game this season. That means the bulk of the offense will have to go through Dejounte Murray here, although he has excelled against Miami and Orlando last week, I’m just not sure if he’s capable of running a team of his own just yet. The Hawks have lost by 21 points in their last game, Sacramento won the first meeting of the season 117-110 after the two teams met near the end of 2023 in Atlanta. Interestingly enough, that was the first Kings win in this match-up over the past 5 meetings.

Kings fans would welcome a similar result with open arms here, following their team’s poor run of 4 losses in a row over the past 10 days. The last 3 defeats were by just 1, 2 and 5 points which is surprising considering Sacramento has performed well in the clutch. Can the Kings be trusted to put away a injury riddled Hawks team? They’ve covered the spread just once in their last 6 home games, for the season they’ve not been very reliable at the Golden 1 Center at just 9-12 ATS. They’re in much better shape injury wise, only Sasha Vezenkov is missing, but he doesn’t play a major part in the rotation anyway. This is a really good spot for Sacramento to turn things around, De’Aaron Fox has scored 30+ points in 3 of the last 5 meetings.

Atlanta Hawks Point Spread Prediction

Atlanta Hawks +8.5 Point Spread is available at -110 odds

This should be all Sacramento, but their recent form has me thinking Atlanta can keep things close. Yes, they are missing Trae Young, but without him they’re 2-1 SU in 3 games this season. He and Murray have often been criticized for having bad chemistry when they’re both playing, so with Young out of the way I think Atlanta will be able to get a result here. I’m taking the Hawks to cover.

Hawks vs Kings Total Points Prediction: Over 237.5

Over 237.5 Total Points is available at -110 odds

I’ve mentioned the two teams playing a similar style, this is very visible on the offensive end where they have very similar stats this season. Atlanta ranks 12th in offensive rating, while the Kings are 14th. The Hawks play a slightly faster pace, but both teams average over 100 possessions per game. They’ve been very productive in head-to-head meetings as well when it comes to scoring baskets. The last 10 meetings are averaging 230.4 points per game, Young not playing should open up the court for Atlanta a bit. Their last 5 of 7 games vs Western Conference opponents have all gone over the total, for the season they’ve had more games that have gone over than under the total. Sacramento relies heavily on offense to win games when playing at home – they’re 14-7 on the O/U at the Golden 1 Center, 10 of their last 15 games vs Eastern Conference opponents have all cashed on the over. Atlanta’s biggest weakness on defense is a lack of paint protection. They allow 55.7 points per game from inside the paint, that’s the 28th mark in the entire NBA. With the Kings averaging 54 points per game down low in their last 3, I think they’ll look to take advantage of that weakness. I’m backing the over in this game.
