Dallas Mavericks vs Oklahoma City Thunder Game 1: BETTING TIPS, PREDICTION & BETTING ODDS

Going into their series against the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Mavericks decided to extend their head coach Jason Kidd’s contract in a multi-year deal signed on Monday. It is unusual timing for sure, but then again Dallas wanted to make sure to keep the man who brought them into the position they’re in now amid rumours of the LA Lakers having interest in him. That kind of distraction is unneeded at this point as the Mavs prepare to make a title run. They sure looked like a team capable of doing so in their series vs the Clippers. But now, a much tougher team in OKC awaits them. The Thunder won the regular season match-up 3-1, however one of those games was on the final day of the regular season when the result didn’t matter. Mavs are 3.5 point dogs in Game 1, they’ve covered just twice in the last 10 meetings.

After last night’s Nuggets defeat vs Minnesota, the Thunder are licking their chops as they now become one of the frontrunners to go all the way, assuming the Timberwolves finish off the defending champs. A total of 8 days have passed since their sweep of the Pelicans in Round 1, so rust could play a part her. But then again, the beauty of this OKC team is the fact that they don’t overthink things and they just play basketball as a young group. They went 33-8 SU in home games this season, going into a series against a team with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving that must give them a massive confidence boost. A lot will depend on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander here, the Mavs were able to shut him down during the regular season, allowing him to average just 22 points per game in 4 meetings.

Dallas Mavericks Point Spread Prediction

Mavericks +3.5 Point Spread is available at -110 odds

I have my eyes set on the upset here. Yes, OKC did win the regular season series, but I have way more confidence in the Mavs who have been in this situation before. This is uncharted territory for OKC, until I see how they handle the pressure, I’m going Mavs.

Dallas Mavericks vs Oklahoma City Thunder Game 1 Total Points: Under 218.5

Under 218.5 Total Points is available at -110 odds

Scoring was out of control for the most part in all 4 regular season meetings, so it’s no wonder we have a projected total of 218.5 points in the series opener. That number sure sounds like a lot for a postseason game, especially since the Mavericks are part of it. Dallas ranked just 12th in the postseason in terms of pace, averaging just 92 possessions per game in their series vs the Clippers. Oklahoma City, on the other hand, relied heavily on defense to sweep the New Orleans Pelicans, allowing just 93.5 points per 100 possessions. Granted, the Mavericks are on a different level offensively and will pose a much bigger threat, but I don’t expect OKC to shy away from a strategy that has gotten them to this point. The under has cashed 4 times in the Thunder’s last 5 games overall and in 5 of their last 6 vs Southwest Division opponents. Dallas has trended towards the under quite a lot towards the end of the regular season and in the first round. Their last 14 of 20 games have all cashed on the under, including 9 of their last 12 on the road. Don’t expect the two teams to go crazy on offense here, take the under.
