With just 8 games remaining, it looks like the battle for the number one seed in the West will go down the wire between three teams. Oklahoma City appears to be in the best position to clinch it, but first they have to win against one of the teams thatβs had their number over the years. The 76ers have won 8 of the last 10 meetings, including the first game of the season between the two teams back in late November 127-123. The Thunder had 2 players score 30+ points in that game, but it wasnβt enough to overcome Joel Embiid who torched them for 35 and 11 rebounds. The big fella will not be available tonight, that should swing the momentum into OKCβs favor here. The Thunder are on a run of 5 wins in 6 road games, theyβve also covered in 4 of their last 5 visits to Philadelphia.
There are positive signs around Embiidβs situation, as the reigning MVP sets his sight on a possible return from injury, as early as this week. Sadly for Philadelphia fans, that will not happen tonight. Tyrese Maxey is also on the injury list with a hip problem, without two of their best players I am not giving the 76ers a chance here. Philly just ended a 3-game losing streak thanks to a 135-120 win at Toronto. They made a season high 24 threes in the win, led by Kelly Oubre Jr. with 32 points. Playing the Raptors is vastly different than playing OKC, the Thunder rank 12 spots higher in three-point defense this season. If they can limit Philadelphiaβs shooting from distance, it could be a long night for the shorthanded Sixers.
