Seattle has new quarterback Sam Darnold behind center, imported from the Minnesota Vikings. Last year, he had an eye-opening regular season and then faltered in the playoffs, so he still has something to prove. He’s +170 to go over 225 yards passing, a total he should reach if things go well for the Seahawks.
Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker has been banged up most of the summer, and there are questions about how effective he’ll be if he does play. The other Seattle running back, Zach Charbonnet, has looked good this summer. He’s +350 to go over 50 yards, an interesting and easy prop if Walker is out or less than optimal.
The Seahawks defense is led by cornerback Devon Witherspoon and safety Nick Emmanwori. They back up a top defensive interior line, led by Leonard Williams and 2024 first-round pick Byron Murphy II.
The 49ers have redemption on their minds after a disappointing 6-11 season in 2024. Running back Christian McCaffrey returns after a short season caused by injury, and the always sure-handed tight end George Kittle is looking to make a big impact. Kittle is -310 to have four or more receptions, which seems very likely.
Quarterback Brock Purdy signed a big contract in the off-season and is now firmly established as the team leader. But he’ll be without wideout Brandon Aiyuk, who is still recovering from two knee injuries and might miss more than a few games. Purdy is -110 to have 250 passing yards, but he’s facing a top secondary in Seattle.
The 49ers defense has six new faces. Star lineman Nick Bosa and Fred Warner return, and they add pass rusher Bryce Huff. They hope to make things easier for secondary up-and-comers Deommodore Lenoir and Renardo Green.
Point Spread: San Francisco -2.5 (-110), Seattle +2.5 (-110)
Money Line: San Francisco -135, Seattle +115.
Game Total (Over/Under): San Francisco Over 43.0 (-110), Seattle Under 43.0 (-110)
