$FML’s Best NFL Player Prop (Week 6) - 10/16

Dallas Cowboys at Philadelphia Eagles - Sunday Night Football (8:20 PM ET)

The birds from Philly retained their perfect record last Sunday, but it was ugly, at least in the 2nd half. Meanwhile, their divisional foe Dallas knocked off the reigning Super Bowl champs with a dominant, 22-10 outright victory as +5.5-point road underdogs. Since backup quarterback Cooper Rush took the reigns as Cowboys’ signal caller in Week 2, they’re a perfect 4-0, and it’s worth noting they were underdogs for 3 of those 4 games.

This sets the stage for an intriguing divisional clash this Sunday night in the national spotlight. Philly’s perfect 5-0 record is on the line; as is Cooper Rush’s perfect 4-0 as Dallas starting Quarterback. Something must give. That’s just physics. And math. Don’t take my word for it. Just ask Dr. John Hyslop.

While the market clearly leans towards Philly (-6.5 on the spread at time of writing), we shouldn’t discount Dallas’ chances to keep it close by executing a strategic game plan that plays to their strengths. They’ve been doing it weekly, and the blueprint couldn’t be more obvious. It starts by establishing the run and pounding the rock early and often. Doing so effectively will open the field for their pass game and keep Jalen Hurts and the Eagles offense on the sidelines.

If I’m right about Dallas’ game plan, then what better man to execute than the running back who…

  • Averages 5.6 yards per carry (8th most among qualified rushers)
  • Is the #4 rated RB in the NFL this season by Pro Football Focus (PFF)
  • Scampered for 50+ rush yards in 5 straight road games
  • Broke off an electrifying, 30+ yard rush in 4 of those 5 games
  • Consistently injects energy and hope into his team’s veins every time he touches the ball

If you think I’m referring to starter Ezekiel Elliot, guess again. That dude stinks. He’s averaging less than 4 yards per carry this season despite getting the lion’s share of touches. Make that make sense.

Dallas fans and fantasy footballers alike know who I’m really talking about. It’s the man/myth/legend that is TONY POLLARD. Dude is an absolute freak of an athlete out there. It could not be more obvious he needs more touches, and it needs to start this Sunday. I mean really, what are they waiting for? Pollard is a pending unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Even if I’m wrong and he continues to be limited to 7 carries or so, he should easily clear this 32.5 rush yard line with explosive runs. Because that’s what Tony Pollard does. He cleared 40+ rush yards in two of his last three matchups vs. Philly, and I don’t see that train stopping Sunday Night. Feed me the over on Tony Pollard rush yards and I’ll swallow at any number up to 35.5 with negative odds for this divisional clash. His 40+ Alt Line is also tempting at plus money odds, though I didn’t personally play it yet.

The Pick: Tony Pollard over 32.5 rush yards (-115)
