NFC Championship: @TonesTakes' Best Bets

TonesTakes

The NFC Championship features a battle of division rivals as the San Francisco 49ers visit the Los Angeles Rams. The 49ers success vs the Rams has been well documented, San Francisco has won 6 straight games against the Rams including a 27-24 overtime affair in Los Angeles in week 18. San Francisco trailed 17-3 at halftime in that game. That win propelled the Niners into the playoffs. Jimmy G led the comeback with 2 touchdown passes and Deebo Samuel ran in another to get the game to overtime, where an early Robbie Gould field goal held thanks to a Matthew Stafford interception with 1:52 left in overtime. This loss marked the first time Rams coach Sean McVay blew a halftime lead, he was 45-0 prior to that when leading at the half.

How The Teams Shape Up

Betting the Spread

If the 49ers are going to win this game, it has to be on the shoulders of Jimmy G, which is something I don't think he is capable of. The Rams are playing their best football of the season right now as Von Miller and Odell Beckham are both fully acclimated into the team. The Rams had a stranglehold on that week 18 meeting and let their guard up which allowed the Niners to sneak into the playoffs. I don't see history repeating itself, and McVay and the Rams will be more determined than ever to exorcize the demons, and host the Super Bowl. Many thought the Cardinals would give LA a tough game in the Wildcard round, like they did twice during the season, but the Rams blew them out. I see a similar outcome Sunday in LA.

Cooper Kupp in Focus

The Rams are going to keep going to what has been working for them, and that is getting Cooper Kupp the ball. In two games vs SF this season, Kupp has yard totals of 122 and 118. He often lines up in the slot, which is a position the Niners struggled against during the season giving up 2,777 yards on a league high 15.3 yards per catch. Look for the Stafford/Kupp connection to continue on Sunday.

Deebo Samuel in Focus

I have been on Deebo's rushing yards the last 2 weeks. In this matchup, I am pivoting to his receiving yards, let me tell you why. In the last 4 games against the Rams, Deebo has hit this mark in every one, while averaging 97.8 receiving yards per game. Los Angeles has a stout run defense that was ranked 6th in the regular season, giving up 103.2 yards per game. I don't think the Rams will allow Deebo to beat them on the ground, i see Jimmy G getting him the ball by utilizing short screen passes to get him in the open field, this is where Deebo will do his damage on Sunday.
