There are a ton of dramatic storylines in the Jets vs. Steelers. There’s Aaron Rodgers returning to the area, hoping for one last hurrah to lead the Steelers into the playoffs.
Helping Rodgers is gamebreaker receiver D.K. Metcalf, who talked his way out of Seattle. The two have the potential to be one of the best combos in the NFL.
Then there’s Justin Fields, who was 4-2 as the Steelers starter in 2024 before being benched. He’d love to show the Steelers they did a bad, bad thing.
The contest marks Aaron Glenn’s first game as Jets head coach. A former No. 1 pick for the franchise, he returns hoping to get the team finally moving in the right direction. The Jets plan to run the ball and gently mix in a few passes to keep the defense honest.
For Pittsburgh, Rodgers will have to prove he has the mobility to avoid the Jets pass rush of Will McDonald Jr. and Jermaine Johnson, the latter back from an Achilles injury that ended his 2024 season. The Jets will have to contend with linebacker T.J. Watt, one of the NFL’s best edge rushers. That task grew tougher this week as solid offensive guard Alijah Vera-Tucker suffered a torn triceps that will put him out for the season.
