$FML's NHL Thursday BEST Bet - 2/22

Fresh off a winning article pick on Wednesday, FastMoneyLabs has a goalscorer play for the Thursday NHL slate!

The Great 8 is BACK in the Capitals lineup and stands ready to strike. He missed the last few games after his father, who he was extremely close to, unfortunately passed away. It’s anecdotal — but when my dad passed from cancer, I scored a rare goal (emphasis on rare) in my first game back on the ice. This situation is different, clearly, given Ovechkin’s the most prolific goal scorer in NHL history — whereas I was a 4th line pine rider who recorded more penalty minutes than points in beer league.\

Anecdotes aside, the key point is this: Alex Ovechkin does not need divine intervention to score vs. the team that allows the most goals in the NHL this season. In fact, the data supports the idea he’s simply due to score. He’s now gone 4 straight games without a goal. Drumroll… You guessed it. He hasn’t gone 5 straight games without a goal all season.
