@GriffyBets' NHL Player Prop Picks - 10/18

Some people question the merit of digging into specific positions on the ice more than others, especially when looking at the forward groups. We can agree to disagree, I’m always on the hunt for centers that offer betting value, and tonight I see three for either a goal or a point prop. I’m betting them each straight.

Dylan Cozens

I love the value on Dylan Cozens of Buffalo to find the back of the net tonight. Edmonton was a great team to consider targeting for shots from centers last season, and Cozens has been shooting as the third-line center for the Sabres.

It's been two games, but Cozens has three SOG in each, tallying a solid ten shot attempts. He scored twice in a game against the Oilers last season, and as the highest over/under of the day at 7, this is a great game to hunt for a goal scorer.

Edmonton allowed centers JT Miller and Elias Petersson to score in their first game and centers Mikael Backlund and Nazem Kadri both scored against them on Saturday. Yes, your math is correct, that’s two centers per game scoring against the Oilers this season.

This targeted approach applies to Tage Thompson and Casey Mittelstadt too, but I love the +400 and the shots I'm seeing from Cozens.

Betting .5u: Dylan Cozens goal (+400 DK)

Brock Nelson

The 0-4 Sharks head to the Islanders today having allowed 3.5 goals per game on this young season. Meanwhile, New York is fresh off a seven-goal beatdown over the Ducks.

I find this -120 price for New York’s top-line center Brock Nelson to be extremely reasonable. Any time I can find a point prop at nearly even-money for a member of a top line, it’s hard to not bite.

Nelson has a point in both games this year and has a point in eight of his last 11 meetings against San Jose.

Nelson is on both the top line and the top power play unit; he stands a strong chance of being involved in any scoring the Islanders pull off tonight.

San Jose has allowed 2 points per game to come from the center position through four games.

Betting to win 1u: Brock Nelson point (-120 DK)

Trevor Zegras

We run back the exact same approach with Nelson on young Anaheim star Trevor Zegras. What books are giving us here is a top-line center and member of the top power play unit to record a goal or assist at just -120.

The Ducks have been getting gashed by shots and goals, but they’re tallying some goals of their own, averaging 3.3 per game. New Jersey has been a generous opponent to goals to start the year, averaging 5.0 allowed in their two games. This after allowing an average of 3.68 last season has me thinking the Devils are going to be a solid target for points and goal props once again.

Zegras has three points in three games this season and now has a point in 19 od his last 28 games. Not quite sure why this is -120.

The Devils have allowed 4.0 points per game to come from the center position in two games.

Betting to win 1u: Trevor Zegras point (-120 DK)
