This promises to be a game for the ages as Argentina and France meet up for the first time since their epic 2018 encounter at the World Cup played in Russia, which went France’s way 4-3. Argentina actually led 2-1 in that game and had more of the ball, but France proved to be too much for them to handle as they went all the way and lifted the title. Now, it’s time for revenge for Messi and co. as they try to win their first title in 36 years. World Cup finals are the biggest game in soccer, often decided by very small details. For example, the last 3 of 4 finals were decided either in Extra Time (twice) or on penalties (once). France beat Croatia 4-2 in regulation in 2018, this time around I’m expecting a much closer game between two evenly matched opponents. The odds on this bet are just too good for us to pass up.

Lionel Messi to have 1 or more shots on target (-340)

Playing in his final World Cup game ever, Lionel Messi has a chance for a storybook ending here as his Argentina looks to lift their first World Cup since 1986. It will also be Messi’s 2nd final in the last 3 tournament, this is his final chance to solidify himself as one of the greatest, if not, the greatest player of all time. He’s been very assertive so far this tournament, prior to Qatar 2022 he had zero World Cup knockout stage goals and now he’s scored in every single knockout game in this tournament. Against Croatia he converted a penalty and assisted Alvarez for the 3rd goal which sealed the deal for Argentina. He leads his team with 4.5 shots per game, averaging 2.5 shots more than the next closest player Lautaro Martinez. Messi is also in the running to win the Golden Boot as well with 5 goals and 3 assists, so that too will be a motivating factor for him to score a goal here. I think backing Messi to have at least 1 goal on target is a no-brainer.

Kylian Mbappe to have 1 or more shots on target (-320)

Similar to Messi, Mbappe has a chance to write himself into the history books if he is able to lead France to back-to-back World Cup victories. It’s been 60 years since a team successfully defended a World Cup title, so this game has the potential to be a very special one for Mbappe and his team. He’s enjoyed a productive tournament so far and although he didn’t score against Morocco, he was a key contributor in the 2-0 victory, putting constant pressure with his pace on the opposing defense. The final should be no different, Argentina will have to come up with a gameplan to slow him down. In the game played between these two teams in the Round of 16 at the World Cup in 2018, Mbappe finished with 2 goals. The fact that Messi currently leads in the Golden Boot race is another motivating factor, I think there’s no doubt Mbappe records at least 1 shot on target here.
