Aston Villa host Liverpool tonight in an important Premier League fixture. Much of the buildup has been about Villa manager Steven Gerrard taking on his former club. Gerrard made over 500 appearances for the Reds during his playing career and is a big supporter of the club. While I’m sure he wants to win, he knows that if Villa do take points today, it will mean the league title likely stays with Manchester City.
Back to back wins over Norwich City and Burnley give Villa hope of a top half finish. Former Liverpool players Philippe Coutinho and Danny Ings should play a role and will hope to stick it to their former boss Jurgen Klopp. I believe Villa will give it an honest effort but will they have enough quality?
After a disappointing draw with Tottenham, Liverpool now have to hope City lose one of their remaining three fixtures. They won’t give up but realistically the league might be shifted to the back burner with FA Cup and Champions League finals in the near future. I still expect Klopp to name a strong team but I don’t see them kicking it into 3rd or 4th gear. I’m seeing a professional performance like a 1-0 or 2-0 and Liverpool turning attention to Chelsea on Saturday.
I’m playing the Correct Score Combination of Liverpool to win 1-0, 2-0 or 3-0 at +210 on FanDuel.
