Villarreal travel to Anfield tonight with the intention of slaying another European giant. Having already knocked out Juventus and Bayern Munich, you know the players believe they can do it again. Unai Emeryâs ability to navigate clubs through tournament play is really impressive and thereâs no doubt heâll have a good plan for tonight.
I think itâs fair to say Jurgen Kloppâs team is the best in the world right now. The Reds are deservedly large favorites tonight and they should advance to the final, but they will have to earn it on the pitch. Anything less than their best will allow Villarreal into this tie. Itâs my belief that Juve and Bayern overlooked them and were dumped out because of it.
Both clubs are missing a goal threat with Roberto Firmino and Gerard Moreno still recovering from their respective injuries. Villarreal will feel Morenoâs absence more because they lack Liverpoolâs depth. Luis Diaz or Diogo Jota can slot into the attack and thereâs little to no drop-off. Lo Celso and Chukwueze are nice players but Moreno is a cut above Emeryâs other options.
Villarreal will make it tough on Liverpool but eventually the Reds will find a way through. Mo Salah is the only forward in the front three I trust to get the full 90 minutes so Iâm backing him to score and Liverpool to win at +105 on FanDuel.
