Same Game Parlay (SGP): James Madison vs. Texas State

Alonzon Barnett (James Madison) & Wayne Knight (James Madison) Anytime Touchdown

Barnett has nine touchdowns with at least one in five of seven games. Knight scored once in five of seven games. I don’t think the team with the seventh-best run game (JMU) will have too much trouble running on the 93rd best run defense in the country.

Lincoln Pare (Texas State) & Brad Jackson (Texas State) Anytime Touchdown

James Madison has given up 74.3 yards rushing/game, but part of that success is due to the level of competition. Texas State has a top ten run game; Pare has nine scores on the year with at least one in six of seven games. Jackson has scored eight with at least one in six of seven.

SGP Odds: +698

A $100 wager will result in a $798 payday, your stake plus $698 in winnings.

Top Player Props

Skyler Locklear (UTEP), OVER 246.5 Passing + Rushing Yards at -114 (vs. Kennesaw State)

In his first start against Sam Houston State, Locklear threw for 236 yards and ran for another 48 for a total of 284. The Bearkats defense was pretty bad, but Kennesaw State doesn’t have a great one either (93rd against the run and 101st vs. the pass).

Wayne Knight, OVER 67.5 Rushing Yards at -114 (vs. Texas State)

Knight has gone OVER this mark in every game but one. His season low (other than the Louisville game) came last weekend when he ran for 74 against Old Dominion. Texas State’s 98th-ranked run defense will not slow him down.

Best Bets

Kennesaw State -9.5 at -115 (vs. UTEP)

Statistically, these teams are not drastically different, but Kennesaw State is playing better football and will benefit from playing at home. UTEP has struggled with consistency on offense all season and has had trouble protecting the ball (15 turnovers). With a new quarterback behind center, they may not be finding consistency any time soon.

James Madison, OVER 428.5 total yards of offense at -115

JMU has a solid rushing attack that averages 243.7 yards per game and a complementary passing game that puts up 188.6 ypg. Texas State is giving up 400+ yards per game, with 162.2 on the ground and 242.1 via the pass.

Analyst’s Take / Expert Note

These teams are not household names so I doubt the betting will be too heavy on either of these games. That means you can find value in mispriced markets like Wayne Knight’s OVER/UNDER for his rushing total.

Locklear only has one start for us to judge him on. But his production was good, albeit against a bad team. However, while Kennesaw State is undefeated in conference play and 5-2 overall, their offense deserves the bulk of the credit because their defense is mediocre.
