NickThePicker's CFB Peach Bowl Pick: Ohio State @ Georgia - 12/31

Peach Bowl Trophy

Nick got his pick in early for this year's CFB Peach Bowl; The Buckeyes and Bulldogs face off on December 31st!

Peach Bowl: Ohio State @ UGA

Ohio State Buckeyes

#4 Ohio State had a respectable season at 11-1 but finished with an embarrassing loss in their last game of the year to their arch-rival Michigan at home 45 to 23. Their schedule overall was pretty weak but had good wins vs #9 Penn State and #19 Notre Dame. Their team/offense is led by Quarterback and Heisman Finalist C.J Stroud with an elite supporting cast of offensive weapons minus Jaxon Smith-Njigba who is sitting out for the draft.

Offensive Ratings:

  • PPG - 44.5 (2nd)
  • YPG - 492.7 (7th)
  • Rushing YPG - 198.5 (25th)
  • RZ Scoring - 94.83% (4th)

Defensive Ratings:

  • Opp PPG -19.3 (10th)
  • Opp YPG - 303.9 (9th)
  • Opp Rushing YPG - 119.9 (22nd)
  • Opp RZ Scoring - 91.30% (118th)

None of this year matters but for my stat nerds.

Georgia Bulldogs

Then we have the reigning National Champions #1 Georgia Bulldogs who are 13-0 with a SEC championship under their belt already after a 50-30 win over LSU. They're led by Stetson Bennett, a QB that everyone wanted to get rid of is now looking for 2 straight National championships(crazy how things change). The offense has been an absolute strength for this team all year and a real improvement compared to previous years. They have the best tight end group in the nation, some people think the best all time and the argument can be made for that. The defense might not have the same name recognition as last year but they're just as talented as an overall group. The problem with UGA is playing down to teams levels, but in a game like this that shouldn't be a problem at all.

Offensive Rating:

  • PPG - 37.9 (7th)
  • YPG - 493.2 (6th)
  • Rushing YPG - 214.3 (12th)
  • RZ Scoring - 98.41% (1st)

Defensive Rating:

  • Opp PPG - 13.8 (5th)
  • Opp YPG - 305.8(10th)
  • Opp Rushing YPG - 81.8 (1st)
  • Opp RZ Scoring - 61.71% (1st)

In Summary:

The play is clear.

Georgia has the much better overall team and should be able to dominate the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Run the ball, work the play action with their tight ends, and deep the defense honest with long shots. You can see a wide difference in Red Zone defenses and vs the run. Ohio State struggled to stop/score vs Michigan and will have a lot of the same problems with this Georgia team.

Go DAWGS!
