The Philadelphia Phillies (83 -72) have NOT locked in a playoff spot yet and are trying to edge out the Brewers (83-73) who are only .5 games behind them. This means there is no room for error. If Bailey starts to falter at all in the first five innings there will likely be a short leash despite it being a double header. They have Noah Syndegaard going tonight who didn't allow an ER in his last start andΒ wentΒ 6 IP in his previous 2 games. The PHI pen is also ready to go after Ranger, Nola and Wheeler have had solid outingsΒ the past three games. Falter is not in good form giving 6 ER in only 3.2 IP LG and only went 4.2 IP the game before that giving only 1 ER. He also hasn't performed well vs the Nationals hitting the under in both games. He went 4 IP giving 2 ER LG vs WAS and 3 ER in 5 IP the game before that. He sports a 5.81 day game ERA and has a 4.58 ERA in September. With his recent bad form, bad history vs WAS, short leash with little room for error and a PHI fresh pen, give me Bailey Falter with a short outing in game 1 of a double header.
