Pittsburgh HAS NOT been striking out early in their games and the only guy that has covered this line recently was Luis Castillo 5 games ago. Besides him, starters haven't hit this line in their last 12 games and they've faced some good pitchers.
It doesn't seemΒ like Flaherty is going to break this trend considering he's only covered this line once in his last 4 games and it was against a strikeout prone Milwaukee squad. Plus this Pittsburgh team is different than last year where he had some success. In specific pitcher/batter matchups he hasn't done well in terms of striking guys out. When you add them all up he's striking out 1 in every 5 plate appearances. This pace isn't enough to get him 6+.
