Russell Wilson has turned into Russell Westbrook in terms of how much slack he's been getting after his last game, but in terms of passing yards he didn't play that bad. He logged 274 passing yards on a high 39 pass attempts (21 completions) vs a Colts team that has only been allowing 202.7 passing yards per game even with a shoulder that was not 100%. The Colts even allow a high 121 rushing yards per game, but DEN still choose to throw the ball. The Broncos weren't even playing from behind, but this just might be the new gameplan with no Javonte Williams and not fully trusting Melvin Gordon, who has fumbled more than any other player in the last few years. Not to mention, Melvin Gordon is questionable tonight. Russ also covered this line in both of his away games this year throwing for 237 and 340 yards.
The game script is very favorableΒ and let me explain why. The Chargers open as a 4.5 point favorite and have been catching a groove offensively meaning Denver will most likely be playing from behind thus passing more. The Chargers have been allowing opposing QBs to pass for an average of 239.75 PYPG, but allow an uptick at home (259 PYPG). The same for the Broncos, Russ has thrown for an average of 231 PYPG (probably why the line is right there), but has thrown for an uptick of 272 PYPG away.
After throwing for 274 yards 11 days ago, Russell has had time to feel all the hate and criticism, get an injection in his shoulder, recalibrate with his wide receivers, and with the Broncos running thin at running back, Russ should be primed for a huge game vs a favorable opponent.
