The Halos struck out 20 times on Sunday. That’s bad. All-time bad.
Their 30.4% strikeout rate vs. RHPs in the last month is approaching another planet. The next closest team is 25.6% -- nearly 5 percentage points lower.
The strikeout issue is bleeding through to other offensive categories, too. Following base hits with strikeouts isn’t a winning strategy. They’ve failed to score 5+ runs in 10 straight road games as a result.
That spells trouble tonight vs. Miami Ace and Cy Young hopeful Sandy Alcantara. That dude is a well-oiled machine – especially at home. Even the best offenses in the league are struggling against him. He’s not an elite strikeout guy, but let’s be honest – does it even matter? I’d be surprised if Dr. Anthony Fauci couldn’t whiff 3+ Angels at this point. Not too worried about Sandy hitting 6.
Miami is 10-6 when Alcantara starts. They face a tougher matchup tonight against Noah Syndergaard pitching for LAA, but it shouldn’t matter. The Angels are 5-7 when he starts – not because he’s bad, but because they can’t score.
For all these reasons – I see value on a bet that Sandy Alcantara will record 6+ strikeouts and win the game at plus money odds tonight. If you’re feeling risky – bump it up to 7+ and win for a better payout.
