Where have I seen this movie before?

Ahhh. Yes. The date was July 22nd. Same exact matchup. And in case you missed it — here’s a quick recap:

The Red Sox’ lineup has a high Whiff Rate vs. Splitters. And that’s problematic vs. one of the best, if not the best, at pitching Splitters.

In four clashes vs. Boston since ‘21, Kevin Gausman whiffed 8+ batters each time, 9 once, and 10+ twice. If that sounds nice on paper — brace yourself for the Props.Cash chart. It’s pure beauty:

The past doesn’t always predict the future, of course. But if Boston’s projected lineup is any indication, then I’ll take my chances on Round 4 being close to (but not equally) as good. And even if the lineups change (as they might), I’m comforted knowing nearly every player on their roster has above average strikeout rates and whiff rates with low walk rates vs. Gausman.
