Rejoice! The baseball universe has been blessed with an ALL-TIME matchup tonight: Max Scherzer vs. the New York Yankees.
Scherzer’s faced the Bombers twice in the COVID era (2020 & beyond). He finished with 11Ks in just 5.1 IP on July 23rd, 2020, and 14 Ks in 7.1 IP on May 8th, 2021.
What’s scary about that for the Pinstripes is how he was donning a Washington Nationals uniform at that time. Not exactly the most storied rivalry. Fast forward to tonight, can you imagine how fired up Mad Max probably is to take on the Yanks in a Mets uniform?
Also problematic for the Yankees is the fact they used 6 different relief pitchers last night across 5.2 innings. Expect that to have a spillover effect tonight with Domingo German as the scheduled starter. German’s a good pitcher who just returned from a long-term injury and is on a pitch count. This leaves the Yankees vulnerable to another bullpen game at a time they surely want to avoid one.
For all these reasons, I like the Mets to win and feel Max Scherzer’s strikeout prop is worth laddering tonight from 8-10Ks! I structured my bets as follows:
- 8+ Ks (-129/Barstool) (win 1u)
- 9+ Ks & Win (+200/FanDuel) (risk 0.5u)
- 10+ Ks & Win (+330/FanDuel) (risk 0.25u)
Ladder plays are a high-risk/high-reward strategy, so please bet responsibly and best of luck!
