The New York Yankees take on the Baltimore Orioles tonight in Baltimore. These two teams have played 13 times already this season with the Yankees winning nine of those games. However, they are just 4-3 in Baltimore. The Orioles won a series in the first week of the season against the Yankees in Baltimore and the Yankees have been on a roll since. However, the Yankees are really struggling right now. They have now lost seven of their last 10 games and they are in their first slump of the season. On top of that, the Yankees also played a doubleheader yesterday in Houston. Not only did they have to use a bunch of their relievers in a couple close games, but they also add the travel aspect. The Orioles on the other hand are completely refreshed and ready to get after it in the second half. Their front office is currently deciding whether to be buyers or sellers at the trade deadline, so you know those players will come out wanting to prove they deserve a shot at the playoffs.
Tyler Wells has been very good for the Orioles this season, he is 7-5 with a 3.38 ERA. He is also 5-1 with a 2.87 ERA in his last seven games and he is 2-0 with a 2.76 ERA at home. He has also pitched well against the Yankees this season allowing just 4 earned runs in 14 innings pitched. Jameson Taillon has also been very good this season, he is 10-2 with a 3.86 ERA but he has really struggled lately. He has a 5.73 ERA in his last seven games and although he has pitched well against the Orioles this season, he hasn’t been exceptional either. The Yankees played a doubleheader yesterday and were forced to use a lot of relievers in the process, while the Orioles relievers were all able to rest through the break. The Yankees have the second best bullpen in the league this season, but they are a little worse ranked 6th overall in the last 30 days. The Orioles bullpen is right behind them ranked 8th as well, so that will be pretty even with the rest for the Orioles. The Yankees have lost seven of their last 10 games while the Orioles have won eight of their last 10 games. The Orioles are also 16-7 in the past 30 days, including 8-0 at home, while the Yankees are just 14-12 and 6-7 on the road in the same time span. I like the value in the Orioles here.
