@KeepTheJuice21 +2600 Home Run Parlay & Nationals @ Cubs Prediction - 8/8

Washington Nationals(36-74) @ Chicago Cubs(43-64)

In what will likely be a preview of the NLCS, two juggernauts face off in Washington today. I wrote that intro in 2016, hopefully still holds up today! In all seriousness though, I would not blame you for skipping this game. The Cubs and Nationals are in a race to the bottom and it’s a dead heat. I also wouldn’t blame you for doubting these offenses. Neither has been scoring well lately and morale is as low as it gets. But let’s keep in mind, they’ve mostly been playing playoff contenders lately. The Nats last 4 series have been against the Phillies, Mets, Cardinals and Dodgers – pretty tough stretch. Despite it, they have getting on base and just not scoring. That’s the type of statistic that confidently predicts future success.

The Cubs don’t quite have the same statistics to back, but what they do have is a good matchup. Anibal Sanchez is making is 5th appearance of the year and none have been pretty. A 7.65 ERA often indicates a bad blowup game but Sanchez has pretty much done the same in each performance. He’ll get through 5 innings if he’s lucky and give up 4-6 runs, regardless of the opponent. So don’t bank on a good team to do well today, bank on a bad teams to do badly, something that’s much easier to be consistent at.

Home Run Parlay

We’re working the same game parlay tonight, starting with the big man out of the Toronto. The biggest total on the slate today is no coincidence, there are two legit offenses coming to the plate tonight. And they’re doing it in one of the most hitter friendly ballparks, Camden Yards. Vlad Guerrero is a home run machine and tonight should be no exception. Two home runs in the last series against the Twins against much tougher pitching and a bigger park. Jordan Lyles has given up 16 home runs this season, one of the highest clips of any starters, Vlad knows him and has gone yard off him before.

Flip the sides and the story is still looking good. Anthony Santander has 19 home runs this season and has the advantage of switch hitting. Against Yusei Kikuchi he’ll likely hit lefty, which should bear well. Hitting lefty, Santander has a higher average, OBP, slugging percentage, and OPS. Speaking of Yusei, he’s no stranger to home runs himself, surrendering 15 jacks over only 74 innings. Santander will have a great chance tonight.
